Senior GOP Officials Exploring Options if Trump Drops Out
Republican officials are exploring how to handle a scenario that would be unthinkable in a normal election year: What would happen if the party's presidential nominee dropped out? ABC News has learned that senior party officials are so frustrated — and confused — by Donald Trump's erratic behavior that they are exploring how to replace him on the ballot if he drops out.
So how would it work?
First, Trump would have to voluntarily exit the race. Officials say there is no mechanism for forcing him to withdraw his nomination. (Trump has not given any indications that he no longer wants to be his party's nominee.) Then it would be up to the 168 members of the Republican National Committee to choose a successor, though the process is complicated.
What if the Trumpster decides he's had enough fun and will make more money with a new 'reality' TV show? One day he just says "Screw it, I'm outta here!". What will the True Believers do at that point?

Trump's not gonna drop out. He's in it for the long haul.
His massive ego won't allow him to drop out.
Wanna bet? Tell you what - if he doesn't drop out but instead stays in until the election's over with, I'll say really nice things about Texas, the Dallas Cowboys (whom I despise almost as much as the NY Yankees), and - worst of all - admit that Texas BBQ is better than Mississippi pit BBQ...and I do take my BBQ seriously!
But if Trump drops out, you say really nice things about the Puget Sound area of Washington state, the Seattle Seahawks, and admit that Mississippi pit BBQ is better than Texas BBQ (which it most certainly IS).
How about it?

You're from Mississippi? That explains a hell of a lot if you are... Plus, North Carolina BBQ with an Eastern NC vinegar based sauce is the best - just to keep the record straight.
As for the OP, no, he isn't going anywhere. But, if he were anyone else, I would actually believe that he's intentionally trying to lose.

Trump's not going to drop.
This place smells like BBQ!
Sorry, can't stand that vinegary sauce y'all like. I gotta have that BBQ that leaves me sweatin' and cryin' and smilin' all at the same time - gotta have that sweet, spicy sauce! Speaking of which, I grew up down in the MS Delta, but I live close to Seattle now - I'll never live in MS again. Period. (It's a long story - I miss the land, the weather, and especially the food, but I can't stand the racism - once you see it for what it is, it almost suffocates you)
And as I keep telling the others, I sincerely hope the GOP can recover from this, but I don't think they will for at least a decade. The problem with the self-inflicted marginalization of the GOP is that as much as a left-wing liberal like me prefers the Dems, without the GOP to balance things out, we'd essentially have one-party rule - and that's never a good thing.
It does seem that way doesn't it.
Why can't he keep his mouth shut for just one day and concentrate on the task at hand?
Something I think we can all agree upon:

Yeah, I don't think a lot of people really understand where Trump's popularity and appeal is coming from. And the more the left-wing media and politicos complain? The more votes DT garners.
OMG you just endorsed vinegar based BBQ. And the divide widens.
And I thought we had moved past such things. Mustard based sauce? I can eat it, but you've obviously not had actual, real, authentic, homemade NC sauce, and Stephen Colbert wouldn't know real BBQ if it jumped up and him in his face with an oink and it's crispy curly tail.

There's nothing at that link and it sounds like a planted story anyway. Proof? MOJO was talking about it this morning.
Sorry. Something happened when I posted the link originally. Here it is - Senior GOP Officials Exploring Options if Trump Drops Out - ABC News
Why does the fact that Mother Jones is talking about it cause you to think it is a "planted story"?
