Senate Backs Apology for Slavery

You mean that this is not the first time "we" apologized for slavery ?

I believe President Clinton offered a formal apology on behalf of the nation during his time in office. I guess it is not good enough until the Senate, House, and every other legislative body, and maybe the Supreme Court does as well.

1. There is at least one black in the Senate, right? If the whole Senate is apologizing, doesn't that mean an African American is appologizing for slavery?

2. I think it's about time black people got the 40 acres and a mule they were promised. Sure, there's not much use for a mule in this day in age, but I'm sure they could find a creative use for it.

Problem with this is that it was the Egyptians who enslaved the Hebrews and Egypt may be in Africa Egypt is not a total representativeof frica and the continent Africa is not a total representation of all countries of afrrica.

Plus the Hebrews who helped build Pyramids are long dead as are the Pharoe characters who did the "enslavin".

.....LET MY PEOPLE GO .........

I WAS THINKNG .. Have those peole who own Toyota and Honda and Sony and Misubishi ever apologize for the DAY THAT WILL LIVE IN INFAMY -- Pearl Habor ?

You're a Democrat!!! Y ou need to double apologize !!! When there was slavery runningl oose in the LAND OF COTTON WHEREOLD TIMES WERE NOT FORGOTTEN the only political party down there there was the Democrats. After the Civil War and into the 1960's when the Civil rights battles were fought the Democrats who turned into Dixiecrats who turned into Southern Goldwater Reagan Republicans were the only party in power.

So you and your BFF owe everyone an apology !!!

LET MY PEOPLE GO !!!!!!

Well, I think a lot of people are saying we have nothing to apologize for, as we don't own slaves. It is true that no one alive today owned slaves, but the legacy of slavery and racism in this country can be seen very clearly today in many poor black neighborhoods.

With that in mind, the very idea of apologizing is ridiculous. Not because we shouldn't apologize as a country, but because it is a completely empty gesture!! What does it accomplish?? What purpose does it serve?? None that I can see, so I think the senate should just concentrate on doing things that actually matter.

Your a psycho!!!! Funny, but a psycho!

I did say that it was a feel good jesture but I did initially think that it was necessary but I really don't know if the feelgoodness of the resolution is good enough or does the emptyness of that jesture justmake it it a joke ..

LET MY PEOPLE GO!!!

Blair did this as well.
It was bull****, what did it achieve? No one in this world used to be a slave and still lives. Are we going to apologise for everything, how far back will we go?

Now that we've cleansed our souls on this, does this mean we can now demand one for the Zulus, Ashanti, Swahilis, and Arabs, too?

Don't forget apologies for all Latin American countries, like Nicaragua and Panama.

My ancestors during the time of American slavery weren't even Americans. They were Germans. Can they legitimately apologize for me when not even my ancestors were a part of the deal?

No, they should apologize to me for the Halocaust.

Yeah they should apologize over and over. In fact they should get the president to stand up before the nation and apologize for slavery. I hope he goes into that Richard Pryor sound-alike thing when he does it.
