You mean that this is not the first time "we" apologized for slavery ?
An apology is not appropriate. Slavery existed long before the United States, and still exists now in Africa and parts of Asia.
If apologies for slavery are going to be handed around, perhaps Africans should apologize to Jews for slavin em up to make the pyramids ?
.
Plus the Hebrews who helped build Pyramids are long dead as are the Pharoe characters who did the "enslavin".
You know any former slaves or slave owners?
I believe President Clinton offered a formal apology on behalf of the nation during his time in office. I guess it is not good enough until the Senate, House, and every other legislative body, and maybe the Supreme Court does as well.
I used to work with a guy named Moses does that count ?

Right on! Two birds with one stone!
Wait, I think Willie president" and Willie Jeff was serviced by a Jewish girl in the White House which was built by Black slaves .....
LET MY PEOPLE GO !!!!!!
you is funny!! you will probably get accused of being racist for that remark but so will probably will I ...
LET MY PEOPLE GO!!!!!
My "black" best friend can attest to my non-racism. But then I tease him all the time that due to his Republican affiliation, perhaps he is not really black. Sorry, I have to as a Democrat!!!!
LET MY PEOPLE GO !!!!!!!!
SWING LOW SWEET CHARIOT COMMIN FOR TO CARRY ME HOME ..... !!!
OH it's late I am being bad..

You're a Democrat!!! Y ou need to double apologize !!! When there was slavery runningl oose in the LAND OF COTTON WHEREOLD TIMES WERE NOT FORGOTTEN the only political party down there there was the Democrats. After the Civil War and into the 1960's when the Civil rights battles were fought the Democrats who turned into Dixiecrats who turned into Southern Goldwater Reagan Republicans were the only party in power.
So you and your BFF owe everyone an apology !!!
LET MY PEOPLE GO !!!!!!
Well, I think a lot of people are saying we have nothing to apologize for, as we don't own slaves. It is true that no one alive today owned slaves, but the legacy of slavery and racism in this country can be seen very clearly today in many poor black neighborhoods.
With that in mind, the very idea of apologizing is ridiculous. Not because we shouldn't apologize as a country, but because it is a completely empty gesture!! What does it accomplish?? What purpose does it serve?? None that I can see, so I think the senate should just concentrate on doing things that actually matter.
It's still empty. It doesn't DO anything. It's a waste of time.
You might as well have a resolution stating that the sun rises from the east.
It's more than obama has done.

The Senate Resolution is non binding and " It Cannot Be Used in Reparations Cases"
I know that this is a feel good action on the part of the Club of One Hundred but apologizing for slavery is about time.
Does anyone think that the Senate should not have appologized ? If so why.
Does anyone think that the Senate should have made this a binding resolution AND made it with reparartions ?
If so why.
Does any think that now that the Senate has passed this resolution Blacks shoudl shut up already, get back to work, and don't cause any more problems ?
Does anyone think that all of the 99 serving Senators should be thrown out of office for passing this resolution ?
Now that we've cleansed our souls on this, does this mean we can now demand one for the Zulus, Ashanti, Swahilis, and Arabs, too?
My ancestors during the time of American slavery weren't even Americans. They were Germans. Can they legitimately apologize for me when not even my ancestors were a part of the deal?
