That will be a very winnable seat in 2 years.

Toomey who used to be considered a rightwinger decided to get out ahead of his own post 2020 election demise going into 2022. Toomey is now a "conservative" who bows to Trump and who sees where this is going.

The PA Republican Santorum went rightwingnut and Christian crazy going for a third term in 2006 and failed to get 40% of the vote in getting kicked out of the Senate by 17 points and Bob Casey. That's huge and it can happen again as Toomey knows.

Toomey and the late Sen. Arlen Specter had quite the merry go round with Specter quitting the Republican party so Toomey couldn't defeat him in the primary then losing to Toomey in the general after Specter became a Democrat. This was after Specter had already defeated Toomey in the primary but only narrowly. Toomey and Specter were definitely OTT btw.

Toomey knows the fickle finger of fate and he knows there are an army of excellent Democrats in PA any one of whom will take him out in '22.
