Sen. Josh Hawley (R-MO) proposed legislation that would restrict U.S. lawmakers from stock trading — and President Donald Trump was not happy about it.

In a committee vote Wednesday, Hawley and Democrats passed the bill out of committee, where it will hit the full Senate for a vote.

Business Insider reporter Bryan Metzger spoke with Hawley on Thursday, and he said Trump had called him the night before, telling him other Republicans had told him he'd be forced to sell Mar-a-Lago under Hawley's law.

Looks like the orange child-rapist may be forced to sell Mar-a-Lardo.

Trump just wants to be allowed to keep doing inside trading. He wants the President not to be affected by the law. That is all.

I agree with Trump.

Hawley is a 2nd tier legislator, since he caved to the Dems and included the executive branch in a bill that was intended to only apply to Congress.

So you think the Prez & VP should be exempt from questionable stock market activity during their time in office?

It's an interesting bill, but I think it's mostly just a dog and pony show. It has no chance of actually making it through, and even if it does, Trump will veto it. But in the end, this sort of insider trading scheme is but one of the multiple scams politicians have at leveraging their position and power into money. It's a step in the right direction, and absolutely should include the President too, but ultimately doomed. It's interesting that it was even introduced.

Not at all.

I think Hawley should have stuck to his guns about what his bill is about: Stock market activity by Congressmen. After all, he named it after Pelosi.

If Hawley wanted to include other branches of the government, he should have included all three branches...legislative, judicial and executive. He should have also included EVERYONE who is part of the entire government.

But, with his desire to get his bill passed, he caved to the Dem's desire to target the President.

Why not kill 2 birds with 1 stone and add both Congress Critters in and future POTUS/VPOTUS? Why waste time trying to pass 2 bills when one will do just fine.

Why not make it apply to EVERYONE connected to the government?

Legislative, judicial and executive branches...and everyone employed by them.

Hawley can target Congress if he wants, but if he's going to target anyone else, it should be EVERYONE else. Not just the President.

The SCOTUS needs to be included in that bill.

The Judicial Branch already have extensive ethics rules for finances. Or at least they are supposed to. Thomas ignores them.
