Scotland Yard to move to New Building

Scotland Yard will move to the Curtis Green Building on the Victoria Embankment which used to be Cannon Row Police Station and which formed part of the Old Scotland Yard Building that the 1960's New Scotland Yard office block was built to replace. The Met will keep the name Scotland Yard and the famous revolving sign will be moved to the new location.

In terms of Security the Curtis Green Building is directly between the former Scotland Yard building (the Norman Shaw Buildings) and the Ministry of Defence, and even shares access with part of the MOD, so is within one of the most secure and highly guarded areas of London.

Great Scotland Yard on Whitehall below (which is not far from the Curtis Green Building) - 4 Great Scotland Yard was the original home to Scotland Yard from 1829 untill the opening of the Norman Shaw Building in 1890, when it became known as New Scotland Yard. The original building at 4 Whitehall Place still has a rear entrance on Great Scotland Yard. Stables for some of the Metropolitan Police Mounted Branch are still located at 7 Great Scotland Yard, across the street from the first headquarters.
