Scotland, mural with golliwog deemed racist

Oh dear god people are stupid.

Multi-culti bull**** is poisoning society every moment. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for multiculturalism, but the way it is promoted today.. this brand of multiculturalism is neither multi or culturalism. Europe used to have proper multiculturalism(which is why European arts and culture is diverse and amazing and all that good stuff)... then the PC brigade stepped in and it got ****ed.

Two weeks ago there was this huge scandal with Black Pete in the Netherlands, Santa's helper there... now it's this.
I looked at the paintings, I saw nothing racist there. What? there's a black kid in the middle painting, so what? That's racism? Well good golly, better not paint anything in colors anymore. Oh wait... that means we'll just have to paint things in black and white... that's even more racist! (says my inner PC brigade). I know, let's abolish any skin color paint to be used in paintings. from now all people need to be blue, green purple or any other variation but not in any way white, yellow, black, brown or red. Or any other skin pigment.

Really. Let's just do what I said we should do. Ban all art that uses human skin tone colors. Just... ban it all. And then we'll all live happily ever after and we can all go **** ourselves out the window because we're all a bunch of pansies with the sensitivity of a cricket.

One parent complained and police aren't investigating anything, they're just giving the standard media lines (because they know anything else would get twisted). I'm certain nothing will come of this in reality. It strikes me as the ultimate in non-stories.

Of course, it's already stirring up exactly the kind of knee-jerk reaction here, just as the media trash wanted it to because that's what gets them viewers/readers/hits. What's more, in six months time, this will being confidently quoted as "That school where a mural was ripped down because of PC!". I think they're just warming up for Witerval season.

Break the word up. Golli - wog. "Golli", happy or excited. "Wog", a British slur for a dark-skinned person.

I'm certain you're familiar with word Americans used to describe blacks, that I'm not going to use lest I anger the mods or deeply offend someone?

It's a doll or caricature that literally means that. "Happy ..."

Actually I was not aware of either of the words. Golli is a village in Persia.
I know golly as in, good golly miss molly...
But not wog... or Golli.

Also, this has nothing to do with America. It's Scotland.

Anyway. I'm not defending the mural picture. I'm just attacking the stupidity of the reaction that people have and the length to which this stupidity causes people to go.

I only know that because I watch trashy British TV shows. Otherwise I'd have thought the exact same thing as you.

You must have missed the part in the news article, where it said, Police are liasing with the council. They would've investigated so as to ascertain the facts. If thats not the Police getting involved, I don't know what is!
A non-story yes, but only in as much as saying the person(s) doing the complaining are being utterly ridiculous.

I really don't care about the painting... and maybe you are right. But where do we draw the line hmm?
We either turn into a society of pansies that gets upset over everything or we grow a thicker skin and deal with it maturely. I prefer the 2nd one really. We should have the maturity to not have to self-censor ourselves according to the whimsical cries of some pathetic ultra-sensitive nutjobs. And the only reason the PC-crippled get their way is because they shout a lot like a bunch of banshees.

I get it that we should not have blatantly racist depictions. But to schriek over every single instance that "offends" someones' cricket sensibility is madness.

Yes, that's just the standard line. They have to say something of the media would condemn them for ignoring a poor tax-paying mother but they is obviously nothing for them to actually do because if they did the media would condemn them for PC nannyism. That's why press officers for these organisations have to use such standard non-statements. Remember, the media aren't looking for facts, they're looking for sound bites.

It's still person, singular. One person saying something ridiculous shouldn't be considered national news. If it were, I'd have heard half a dozen front pages stories just today.
 
Paint it over. Make the wall a neutral color. Like eggshell or beige. Problem solved. Cowards way out, but problem solved anyway.

There's no need. It's not a problem. Nothing is going to come of this. One person complained (probably) and they'll get a cup of tea, some soft words and sent politely but firmly on their way. It's a bit cold over at the moment here so the journalists want "news" they don't have to go outside for.

These reverse-PC responses are worse than the reality of what you're attacking.

Reminds me of all the controversy with that old Tintin in the Congo comic book. I mean I get why some people get offended, these are caricatures from a racist era we'd rather not be reminded of too often, but still... Some people are more sensitive about these images than others. It's like those old caricatures of Jewish people, they still make a lot of people see red when they pop and understandably so.
