There was a clash between the Uigher population, which are Muslim and the migrant Hun Chinese a few months back over an alledge rape of a Muslim girl.
I am will sorry but what you said is totally oppsite. I don't know where you got this information or what is your purpose? no Muslim girl involved in this issue. it's rumor of rape of two han girls caused confilict between han and Uigher.
I forgot to add, the reason for the original demonstration was that there was an incident a week ago at a factory between Han Chinese and Uighurs that turned violent. I don't know the specifics yet but will soon. The demonstrators took to the street to demand that the government address tensions between the two ethnic groups.
Also, it is important to note that when the Uighur protest started, Han Chinese people living in the cities also took to the streets with weapons to attack the protestors, but their government will never mention that.
Xinjiang is essentially another country. It is ethnically closer to the Middle East (like the other -stans of the former Soviet Bloc) than it is to Asiatic China, but the Communists seized control of it after their rise, along with Tibet.
It is an annexed nation faced with the premise of gradual cultural genocide.
Sounds like the Han Chinese are engaging in a long term, methodical process of ethnic cleansing in the region.
Orius,
I thank you for your wonderfully revealing posts. There are very few on this forum that post on China, and it is the area of my graduate studies. I have known for a while now, how the Beijing government is tearing down the old cultures of China and replacing it with their likeness. It has been happening in Tibet for a few decades now, and I am deeply saddened to learn the same is befalling the Uighers. I have written my Senators many times on the failure of the U.S. government to call China on it's human rights abuses and tyrannical government. I found it very ironic that a government that supports China, spokeout against Iran for human rights violations and corruption. Please, share as much as possible with this forum, or PM me personally if you will. Again, thanks for sharing your experience.
Our governments - and I include Canada in my assessment - are all hypocritical liars. They only care about freedom and liberity for their OWN people, and it is still tightly controlled. Our governments talk big about human rights around the world, but they are enablers for some of the most brutal regimes. All they care about is economy and making money, getting cheap imports for the corporations (which, by the way, they then charge US ten fold for to make obscene profits), and then turn around and make petty, useless condemnations of humans rights in China.
Our governments are just as guilty for what happened in Xinjiang as the Chinese government itself is. Our purchases are funding their genocide, and our governments don't give a ****.
Wasn't it Clinton who gave them most favored nation status?
According to [ame=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Most_Favored_Nation]Most favoured nation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia[/ame] China has this status.China still does not have most favored nation status, due to their refusal to adjust the yuan (RMB) and their blocking and high tariffs placed on American goods. This is why our trade deficit is so high. They allow virtually no U.S. goods in and we allow all Chinese goods to be imported in our country. If they would drop these barriers, they would then indeed recieve most favored nation.

If by "Han Chinese" you mean "the Chinese government," you would be correct.Sounds like the Han Chinese are engaging in a long term, methodical process of ethnic cleansing in the region.
