It's an institution which exists for the purpose of gaining money and power over the masses. It's a continuation of what the Catholic Church was in the Middle Ages. By presenting itself as an arbiter of truth, it allows the masses to be controlled. And people are just as gullible today as they were back then. They'll believe that something is true just because they were taught it in school, or because as "scientific authority figure said so". Not because it actually "is" true. (Truth isn't even a scientific concept, it's a philosophical one).

People should liberate themselves from this monstrosity and become independent scientists. Today, people can read any science book that they want to (or any other book on any other subject) and come to their own conclusions about what is true, rather than letting a bunch of money and power-hungry assholes dictate it to them. Think of it as the modern equivalent of the Protestant Reformation.

Many if not most religions present themselves as "arbiters of truth".

And you want science doing the exact same thing for you? Why not become your own arbiter?

I responded to your post about the Catholic Church presenting itself as the "arbiter of truth".

I responded by pointing out that many if not most religions do the same thing.

I've not mentioned "science".

There is an unwarranted crusade afoot. One ponders the motivations.
Oh, yeah, big time.....

Problem is, the great reveal might never make an appearance.

So you suggest that we all re-invent the wheel for ourselves, rather than trust any empirical knowledge, no matter what.

That's plain out idiotic.
Why not? It would probably improve the education level of the average person if they learned to do that.

You've never conducted an epidemiological study in your life. You've never conducted a double-blind placebo controlled trial. You trust and take advantage of science every day. Your posts are idiotic and disengenuous.

Smart people take wheels, already invented, and invent something else.

How 'bout we give kids a couple kilos of flint, drop them off in the Papua New Guinea jungle, and tell 'em to figure it out.

(y) That'll smarten 'em up.

It's an institution...
No it isn't. Science is a set of structured methods and principles for testing evidence against hypotheses. There is no singular institution the represents "science" and there never has been, though ironically, the Catholic Church sort of tried (but inevitably failed) to become one back in the Middle Ages.

IMO, the Church should have stayed in their lane. They did not know the answers to scientific questions, yet they pontificated on stuff they literally knew nothing about.

Along comes fellows like Capernicus and Gallileo, and now people are beginning to question the church. "If they are wrong about that, what else might they be wrong about?"

Historically, the church never liked having its doctrine questioned. That was a good way to be arrested for heresy and tortured or burned at the stake. Fortunately with scientific advancement, there is actually quite a lot the church got wrong.

Peer review is not the same as a preacher making doctrine. Y’all tried this shit before and got your teeth kicked in by scotus.
