Don't count Casey out yet !!! MAGAts just trying to steal a seat prematurely as most of the mail in ballots are coming in from Dem strongholds so far
This is also not partisan as they are still waiting for mail in ballots from Arizona to be counted and have not claimed Gallego a winner yet either

Schumer withholds Senate orientation invite from McCormick

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer will not allow Sen.-elect Dave McCormick (R-Pa.) to participate in Senate orientation this week because he doesn’t consider the race to be resolved yet. Though the Associated Press projected Thursday that McCormick defeated Democrat incumbent Bob Casey in Pennsylvania’s Senate race, Casey has yet to concede, claiming that there are still thousands of ballots left to be counted.

“With over 100,000 ballots left to be counted in Pennsylvania, the race has not been decided. As is custom, we will invite the winner once the votes are counted,” a spokesperson for Schumer wrote in a statement. As of Sunday at 4:30 p.m., McCormick was ahead by approximately 39,000 votes.

“Schumer is not allowing @DaveMcCormickPA to participate in Senate orientation this week because Casey refuses to concede the race. What happened to all the demands that our leaders accept the outcome of the elections?” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) said in a social media post Sunday.

Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) has also not been invited to orientation yet as his race against Republican Kari Lake has yet to be called. Gallego is ahead by approximately 48,000 votes. (The Associated Press has not called that race; the New York Times has not called either the Pennsylvania or Arizona race.)

Many Democrats (particularly those in power) never actually cared about this. They cared when Republicans refused to accept the outcome of elections.

Huh? We don't know the outcome yet. That's the point.

Is this how Schumer would conduct business if this was a democrat in the same position? I suspect it is not. It's just more politics by Schumer. Thank goodness he is going to be out of control in the Senate.

Bullshite. Both R and D 'winners' have not been invited.

Meh.

It looks like McCormick leads by about 40,000 votes with 99% reporting (so roughly 70,000 to go), with the outstanding votes mostly from Philadelphia. I haven't looked that closely into which precincts the outstanding ballots are from...is Casey just being stubborn, or is there actually a nonzero chance he could win when they are counted?

I'm fine with waiting a few days to concede in a very close election where the outcome is legitimately unknown. I don't know if that's the case here though.

I don’t have a problem with this.

What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.

This happens in both parties and has happened for as long as we have existed as a nation in terms of the Senate, House and local elections.

Not conceding because not all the votes have been tallied is one thing. If a Republican wants to do that, fine…it becomes a problem after all the precincts are in, the votes have been counted and the loser is just holding shit up.

Or worse, when engaging in lawsuits that keep Atari by that no evidence is being provided, or that evidence has already been debunked, then trying to break the law with fake electors, having supporters then try to usurp a legal election, etc.

Yeah, well……….

Everyone just needs to be patient. Dems need a little more time to figure out how many ballots for Casey need to be manufactured. :p
Still bitter about yesterday?

They need to pull an LBJ/Box 13 job and that takes time.
We’ve been rigging elections since the republic was founded. Nice post, I hadn’t heard of this one. Pendergast used to buy votes in KC, but folks got an overcoat or something of use.

We are a week past the election and don't have results? That's pretty bad.

Is there some secret squirrel info that's distributed in these orientations? Unlikely. Orient both of the potential senators and move on.

WTF is the big deal here, other than a juvenile power play?

It is tradition and has been for as long as I can remember. Normally new congressmen are not sworn in until after the new congressional session starts in January, so it is the GQP are making it a big deal

I can't believe how many people have not taken a civics course. Hopefully this will help and end this convo

When do new members of Congress get sworn in and what happens until then?

<snipped>
While we don’t yet know the fate of the House, lawmakers from both chambers are expected to be sworn in on Jan. 3, 2025.

Vice President Kamala Harris will preside over the Senate as members are sworn in. While the speaker of the House will preside over the swearing in of new members of the House.

On Jan. 6, 2025, the new Congress will count the electoral votes and confirm the results of the 2024 presidential election.

In this case, that is an apples and oranges comparison. Trump refused to concede once he exhausted all legitimate options. It's not like anyone was calling for Trump to concede before the votes were all counted.

Har har har. Never mind when it comes to cheating it's predominantly the republicans.

Why are you talking about swearing in? Is that what you think this is? I've never heard a swearing-in ceremony referred to as an "orientation."

The reason? Senate orientations have nothing to do with swear-ins.

Hopefully that link will help end this "convo."

If it doesn't, perhaps the fact that Schumer has reversed course and invited candidates still in contested elections to the orientation will.

At the time of the OP Callago D Az. was also not extended an invite for the same reason. Thes races are since resolved.
