Schumer and Senate Democrats unveil proposal to federally decriminalize marijuana

When you're as absent minded and sporadically oblivious as I am, you know it's possible.
If there's anything I miss here, it's a sense of humor. I'm in awe. It's worth another day because of you. Thanks!!

Can you explain why?
I can only hypothesize that de-criminalizing is akin to 'not obstructing' whereas legalizing is akin to endorsing, in the minds of some politicians and/or their constituents. I'm not saying that makes sense, only that I suspect those are the mental connections being made.... and "I'm not going to make it illegal but I sure as hell am not going on record to endorse it" is a point of view most politicians take on a variety of issues, on a daily basis.

It wasn't in Colorado, at least at first. I saw a lot of articles about it. Pot shops couldn't open accounts and deposit their money without fear of arrest. Maybe that's been taken care of now that so many other states have jumped on board.
No it hasn't. I live in WA state where it is legal, but it's cash only due to the federal law as banks won't deal with the pot shops.

Good. Time to get marijuana federally decriminalized. Next, it needs to be legalized nationwide.
This is one of the rare instances where i disagree with the GOP.

Marijuana needs to be decriminalized & legalized. On the condition, of course, that "driving while stoned" is treated just like driving drunk.

Meanwhile, Uncle Sam can make some money by taxing marijuana retailers and growers.

What are you smoking?

Why are you spreading disinformation as usual.

Schumer's bill opens up banking to cannabis companies.

Senate Marijuana Bill Would Open Up Banking, Stock Exchanges

Awesome. That's a good step. Thank you for the link.

Because banks follow federal law, not state law- at least the big banks. So right now, cannabis dispensaries in IL cant take credit cards, cant get bank accounts, cant do payroll thru banks, etc. Most big banks wont touch cannabis businesses at all because of the potential risk since its still a scheduled drug.

It’s a bit better now - but still very restricted.

Remove that, the financial floodgates open.
Yeah, I got that. I think this bill goes a bit further than usual "decriminalization" bills, and I got caught up on the wording.
