In other words, you think like Stalin. Russia might be a better place for those who want history gone.
If I were to think like Russia I would like to see all States of America divided just like they were in post USSR.
If crybabies do not have the right to not be offended then they have the right to be offended by history then?
The nutcase is behind bars and no one is erasing history. It shall be known in history that you were fooled from England and France to secede from USA that caused so many lives.
Tell ya what, readthen come back. It is obvious you had a crappy US history teacher. The South Was Right,
Last time I checked crybabies did NOT have the "right" not to be "offended" by history. And it wasn't the "business community" that started this whole mess, it was a mentally ill nutcase with a gun that was obtained illegally. Focus on actual laws that WERE broken instead of trying to erase history.
The South was wrong, the South lost the Civil War, all the slaves were freed and you can throw your Confederate money in the trash because the South will never rise again.
Wait and see.
The "crybabies" are the flag's defenders. They can still fly in on their pickups or motorcyles or cars and signal to the rest of the world they are some combination of jerk/racist/ignoramus.
And I didn't say the business community "started" anything. But the Chamber of Commerce in Columbia voted unanimously (as I recall) to support the flag's removal. It was just bad for business in the state of SC. I'm sure they tired of explaining that, "No, this symbol we raised in defense of Jim Crow in the 1960s really is not, promise, really, we mean it, a symbol of racism or white supremacy. It's a symbol of Southern Heritage but NOT the racist Jim Crow stuff or the slavery stuff that was integral to almost our entire existence as a state! Really! We loves our black neighbors here!"
Still Stalin removed all monuments and everything else to past leaders when he took over. The US is fast becoming that way, especially with the current firestorm over a flag that did not kill anyone.
You don't know that. Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it after all.
That's a good point, and a big reason why that flag rightfully came down and is hopefully on its way to the trash bin of history, seen only alongside "Whites Only" signs and the like in museums. Celebrating "Southern Heritage" without recognizing that an integral part of almost that entire history was characterized and based on slavery followed by the systemic and state oppression of blacks through Jim Crow is a whitewash of what our actual "Southern Heritage" meant to people of color in this region.
Stalin!!
LMAO. Right wingers just love being the poor, poor victims. "Our poor wittle flag came down...Woe is us. We's victims of the libruls...boo hooo...Just like STALIN!!"
And the tone deafness is just amazing. There is no apparent concern about the ACTUAL oppression of slavery, followed by 100 years of Jim Crow, both regimes defended under that flag. No, the real injustice is that the flag the oppressors flew is coming down off a memorial on state property, but with all rednecks proud of their "Southern Heritage" (except for slavery and Jim Crow obviously!) free to fly it on their cars, houses, motorcycles, pick ups, key chains, t-shirts, thongs, bras, etc.....
9 people died in SC and in response a flag that will fly now more not only in SC, but the country, was taken down from a memorial post.
90,000 Rebel flags rise while 1 is lowered.
Now the 9 dead will fade from public memory forever, but at least the left will think they've done something.
Just in time before football season begins.
:applaud
Well played progs, well played...
WOW did my point fly right over your head! You want to see this country's future because of attitudes like that? Look up Joseph Stalin. That ought to be a big clue that you're wanting to go the same way.
Uh, no. Sorry, but the state taking down a widely offensive flag off of state property really is not remotely in any conceivable way by any person with the slightest understanding of history comparable to Stalin and the horrors of his era. That kind of comment is veering deep into suspected Poe's Law territory.
Whhhhhhhhhhhooooooooooooosssssssssssssssshhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! I felt that gust of wind a mile away! Why does my point keep going completely over your head? Stalin got rid of monuments and everything else in Russia's past. Mitch McConnell was fussing about taking down the statue of President Davis in the US Capitol. Memphis is wanting to take down the statue of General Forrest and exhume his body. In other words they are wanting to do away with anything Southern. DO you finally get it now?

See my edits.
And no, I don't "get it" because the comparison between what's happening here to Stalin is insane.
I'll just address Memphis because it's in my state. According to a quick google search it's 61% black. The people through their elected leaders are under no obligation to continue to honor a man who was the reported founder of the KKK and who fought for the Confederacy that if it had won would have kept their ancestors in slavery for an indefinite period post the Civil War.
Like most men of his era in the South, he defies convenient labeling. No doubt he was an extraordinary person, and obviously a great military leader. But in a free society, we can disagree about such things and decide whether to continue to honor a man who fought for what we now regard as an evil institution and reportedly founded a group that no matter its original intent quickly became a terrorist organization, and later emerged as nothing more than a white supremacist hate group. In this country we weigh those things, debate, protest, followed by government action or inaction.
And just because you don't like or even vehemently disagree with the outcome doesn't mean anyone's rights were taken away.
No its not insane if you use the ol' gray matter.
On April 9, 2003, Lieutenant Colonel Bryan McCoy, commander of the 3rd Battalion 4th Marines, awoke at a military base captured from the Iraqis a few miles from the center of Baghdad, which was still held by the enemy.... he walked over to a group of marines under his command who were defacing a mural of Saddam Hussein. As I watched, he picked up a sledgehammer and struck a few blows himself. The men cheered.
OK, so the parallel is Stalin took down some statues. That's.....EVIL!!! Does this picture ring a bell? Those are U.S. troops assisting.

From the article:
All I can think of it's that what Stalin would do!!!
WOW my point went WAY over your head again!!!!! Apples to jackhammers!
Actually, it's apples to apples.
You: "Stalin got rid of monuments..." and "Still Stalin removed all monuments and everything else to past leaders when he took over"
The U.S. removed "monuments and everything else to past leaders" such as statues and murals of Saddam. You'll have to explain the difference other than you likely agreed with removing "monuments....to past leaders" when the leader was Saddam, but want monuments of past leaders of the Confederacy kept up.
Sorry, but the majority black population of Memphis might disagree with you about a statue of the reported founder of the KKK and general for the Confederacy.

So you believe in grave desecration now?
The people in Memphis want to desecrate the grave of Davis, located in Richmond VA!!!! I agree, that's ridiculous, and I'm OPPOSED!
