In perusing the active topics list today, I'm seeing a wall of accusations being traded between right and left.

"Your side" is complicit in the shootings from this past weekend.

"Your side" is distributing hateful flyers in New York.

"Your side" perpetrates more attacks.

"Your side" spreads more lies.

"Your side" ... concentration camps.

"Your side" ... globalist propaganda.

This thread is for people to say something sincerely kind about the other side. If you lean politically right, even a little, say something kind about the left. If you lean left, say something kind about the right.

This is a serious exercise. If you can't offer praise without sarcasm, without veiled insults, without belittling any person or party, without the sincere desire to praise and uplift, please don't post. If you can't think of anything praiseworthy, please don't post to say so. If you believe the opposition is unworthy of praise, please don't post to say so. If you can't accept praise with grace and humility, please don't post.

Finally, in the event that some members violate these rules and seek to sow more division: please don't respond to them. Don't accuse them. Don't call them out. Don't opine how "their side always does this". Don't rebut or dispute. Repay evil with kindness. Say something else kind about "their side".

For my part, I'm a conservative, and so I say to the political left: I disagree with you starkly on matters of immigration, but I respect that policies such as amnesty, sanctuary cities, benefits for illegal residents, etc. are for the most part motivated by sincere concern for human suffering and a selfless desire to reduce it. It's good and right to want to help people regardless of nationality. I wish we could agree more on how this is best accomplished--what is sustainable, what is practical, what is the lesser evil. But I can't say I've ever had a debate where I felt my opponent didn't sincerely care for his fellow man, legal resident or not. I'm convinced this love and concern for other people is genuine, and it deserves to be praised. Hence thank you.

We all like the Constitution.

Even the American Bund, the American Nazi party back in the 30's, they were pro-Constitution.

The US Constitution is a remarkable document. A remarkable experiment. :2usflag:

Many republicans are rightfully disgusted by trump's behavior and are bravely speaking out. Recently, several republican lawmakers have joined Democrats in endorsing thoughtful gun legislation and renewing a ban on assault rifles.

I can respect many of the end goals of both sides. It’s how they plan on getting there I disagree with

I can't say something kind about a group of pathetic, butt hurt sore losers who still haven't come to grips with the fact that the right, independents, cross over Democrats are not neo-nazis, white supremacists, racists, all because they either voted or support the POTUS.
Like spoiled children having a temper tantrum, they deserve no praise from me. The only thing I feel for them is pity.

We all like the Constitution.

Even the American Bund, the American Nazi party back in the 30's, they were pro-Constitution.

If the leftwing nutjobs had their way they would alter the Constitution until it was unrecognizable to the men who wrote it and signed it. So no...we don't all like the Constitution.

The end goals? Open borders? Weapons ban? Destroy the health insurance industry? Set our economy back to 1800's levels by removing the energy sources that enable us to advance?

Do you seriously respect those end goals?

I

:lamo Oh Trix.

So, how butt hurt do you look by going off in a "say something nice" thread?

As for me, well, I love "the other side"... I mean, their politics are a little messed up, but who's aren't? More importantly: it's just one thing. Some of my best friends are friends because of how fun it is to fight with them over political ideologies - so long as we have a beer and talk about the weather after. :)

Oh dear, another cranky conservative that can't say something nice in this thread... Tsk... Is a pattern emerging?

Is what I said untrue?

I'm sorry if the truth isn't "nice".

You’re confusing the ways to get there and the end goals.

Well, yeah, of course it's untrue....but that's comfortable territory for you, my friend...hehe...

But that's beside the point. These "nice" threads appear to be a reconciliatory behavior, at least on the part of those who initiate them - folks who have, correctly, realized that division is your biggest problem in America, and have decided to be adult about it....cuz, I mean, someone's got to, amirite? And part of reconciliation is realizing that neither side is perfect, and likely both sides are far from it, if reconciliation is required in the first place...therefore, for that reconciliation to happen, people are going to just need to get over it...

Are you going to be able to just get over it, Mycroft? Or will you continue to be a force for division, the biggest problem your country faces right now...? How important to you is America's "greatness", really? :)

I'm not butt hurt.
Read what I wrote again.

I have nothing good to say about people who lie about Trump and his voting bloc or supporters. I don't accept your attempt at guilting me.

Seems to be that you might be triggered by my honest assessment.
I'm sure there are a few fine people who didn't vote or don't support Trump's policies, but have accepted that he was duly elected, respect the voter's decision, but they're few and far between.

Nah, lady, I'm not triggered... I'm telling you you missed the point. No one here has any problem identifying the problems of the other side, that's all we talk about all day long, day in, day out. This thread was supposed to be about saying something nice.

All your post suggests is that your incapable. I find that really sad, actually... I mean, I disagree with almost everything you say on this site, and yet I can easily come up with a number of nice things to say about you - you're passionate, you're feisty, you can be funny, you clearly care very much about your country, even if I disagree with how you demonstrate it (that disclaimer was thrown in so you'd believe me, not because I have a problem saying it)…

Disagreeing with, or even being disgusted by, someone else's politics shouldn't cause you to write them off as a person...one more time: It's just one thing. If you find yourself hating such a large group (over HALF, per the last popular vote) of your fellow Americans, to where you can't / won't say anything nice about them, I think your problems my run deeper than mine, my dear, always wrong friend. ;)

Nope. Those are the end goals.

Only if you are a shortsighted moron would you see those as the end goals and not simply steps in the end goals direction.

Nope. Everything I said is true.

Look, this a the "General Political Discussion" forum...not the "Koom By All Of US" forum. If you want a feel good thread for your insincere utterances I suggest you as a mod to move this elsewhere.

And tell me...why should I be part of "reconciliation" with people who engage in spin, speculation, innuendo, hyperbole...and lies? Hell, why should I be a part of reconciliation with people who call me deplorable, nazi, racist, etc?

Tell you what...get the Dems, the Trump haters and their useful idiots to stop trying to divide the country and THEN I'll have something nice to say about them.

That's it, friend, tell us all about you. :)

:popcorn2:

Be careful.

I suggest you present a reasoned dispute of my statement instead of thinly veiled insults.

Stick to the topic. It's not about me.

Oh, no, this is very much about you all - Americans. And your response is as telling as it is predictable. Show all of DP where the problem lies...you're doing a wonderful job, I encourage you to keep going.

I'm not a "you all".

You're not an American? Hmm...is this the admission we've all been waiting for, comrade?

Now you are becoming silly...and boring...you are dismissed.
