President Trump reignited the "war on Christmas” on Friday, telling a crowd of supporters that "we're saying merry Christmas again" now that he's president.Speaking to a packed crowd at the Values Voter Summit in Washington, D.C., Trump argued political correctness has gotten in the way of celebrating the holiday.

“We’re getting near that beautiful Christmas season that people don’t talk about anymore. They don’t use the word Christmas because it’s not politically correct," he said to strong applause and cheers from the audience at the Christian public policy conference, sponsored by the Family Research Council.

“You go to department stores and they’ll say 'Happy New Year,' or they’ll say other things and it’ll be red, they’ll have it painted. But they don’t say — well guess what? We’re saying merry Christmas again.”

Beautiful Christmas season that people don't talk about? What reality is this guy in, I've been seeing and hearing about Christmas for the past couple weeks now and it's not even Halloween yet!

I do wonder how he plans to roll out to have department stores and whatnot say Merry Christmas. I mean, he can't actually think he's going to make people say Merry Christmas, right? :lol:

Not true. Merry Christmas morphed into Season’s Greetings and Happy Holidays a number of years ago. Never stopped many of us, but some bowed to the PC crowd. In our office, one of the Realtors was Jewish. She demanded the cross come off the top of the Christmas Tree, called it a Holiday Tree, and requested Merry Christmas be taken down. Seems she was insulted by it. I believe the expression is, “Gag me with a spoon.”

Anecdotal evidence.

The fact is that nobody is stopping anyone from saying Merry Christmas or whatever. Trump acting like nobody says the word Christmas anymore because of "PC nonsense", and acting like people don't even talk about Christmas anymore, is ridiculous as hell. Even with people changing it to "Happy Holidays", that doesn't prevent anyone from saying "Merry Christmas" at all.

Every year, you have all of these people who reignite the so-called "War on Christmas". And every year, it is just as ridiculous as the last.

Personally, I don't care what people say. I don't care if they say nothing. Christmas is an appropriated Pagan holiday anyway. There really are more important things to get stressed over.

I have no problem with wishing someone a Merry Christmas, or having someone say it to me.

I do have a problem with people who insist that Christmas is the only valid holiday in December.

Thus "happy Holidays" is not PC, but rather, simply accurate and inclusive.

He would be saying Merry Christmas and nobody under his authority would be restricted from doing the same. And in so stating this, he is encouraging everybody else to feel free to do the same. In my opinion, this a GOOD thing. Anybody who doesn't want to say "Merry Christmas" is certainly not required to do so and employers can enforce whatever rules they deem appropriate as they have always done. But nobody need fear the government/Justice Dept. on the issue of whether it is appropriate to say "Merry Christmas" or observe the traditions of it as they see fit.

To me it is a breath of fresh air and I applaud it 100%. I hate political correctness and everything it stand for.

I have no problem with the display of the Christian cross or the Star of David or whatever symbol people want to use during the season. I don't care what rules any business owner enforces during the season and I am not offended by a "Happy Holidays." But I personally am uplifted and enjoy hearing a joyful, heartfelt "Merry Christmas" and I probably will continue to shop in those stores that don't inhibit the meaning of the Season. I already do as much of my shopping as possible at stores that allow the Salvation Army kettle and bell ringers during Christmas and choose not to frequent those that do not. It is my choice. And I think everybody else should do whatever is their choice.

I am just happy to have a Presidential example that encourages a choice.

I'm an atheist and agree with everything you said up to the part about the salvation army part. I find their tactic of raising money unethical, even if it is for a god cause.

He's half right though, I've worked at or been to places that say "Happy Holiday's" and when Is ay "Well I say Merry Christmas!" and then get told "We are not allowed too".
Which is silly as fook on their part. If you aren't celebrating Christmas, either mention that or take it as the kind wish for a good end of year.

No, of course not. Perhaps what he means is to inspire people not to be sheepish about it. Not that anybody is. The only thing I remember hearing about this was in fifth grade. Where my class was doing a news brodcast skit. And one group said "good morning and merry Christmas..." No she waited until the end to tell him that he limits his audience by saying merry Christmas instead of happy holidays. I thought it was bull**** then. I doubt people are sitting around saying "Nope, I'm Hindu and That news isn't for me because I don't celebrate Christmas." However I could care less if somebody wishes me happy holidays, happy Kwanzaa, happy Hanukkah, or whatever.

I am perplexed as to why this bothers people.

It's getting to be that time of year again. As little as I actually watch cable news I make sure to tune out at about this time. The completely fabricated "War on Christmas" is such a disgustingly dishonest stance to take on what should be a good holiday season for everyone. It's a shame that the current POTUS basically forces Fox News onto everyone. Celebrating late year holidays is not only for Christians. Please feel free to get over yourselves.
