Sarah Palin's Writing Analyzed

I'm very sorry that you don't have a sense of humor.

I do have one, this is why you failed.

BTW, your post telling me that I failed has a grade level of .7. Something tells me that this isn't an incredibly accurate way of measuring intelligence other than answering the question "who can piece together the longest sentences?"

Depends on what one is writing I would guess, but if her average is that of an 8th grade level (same as the NY times), on her e-mails alone, that your crayon "joke" did indeed fail. Miserably.

If her emails share any similarity to her screechy speeches I'm guessing that 8th grade level comes more from run on, duct-taped together sentences, rather than using big edumacated words, lol.

I just scored President Obama's inuagural address...

8.2

Palin's emails scored higher

I just scored it as well and it got an 8.6. Granted, I got it off th ewhite house website and removed the "(applause.)" notations since they are not part of the actual address. What did you do and where did you get it from?

Same. White House website, omitted the (APPLAUSE) at the end.

I'll do it again and screenshot the results if you like. What version of WORD did you use? I was using 2007.

Fail. once again, fail.....

Ah, there were other {applause) notations in it. That will lower the score. hit cntl F and then "replace" and then replace the (applause.) with a space.

I was using 2007, but the calcualtion should be the same regardless of which version is used.

Example of concise and clear. . .

Please inform my aide that I need to know the location of the United States on the map before tonight's debate. Thank you,

Sarah

I just analyzed this (a blog post I wrote a while ago) and it scored an 11.35

I think lefties aren't getting their money's worth from these investigative lawyers they have roaming the Alaskan state house.

Fail. once again, fail.....

I figured it out. Apparently talking points rate right at an 8th grade level. Makes perfect sense, everything is right in the world again.

You're right, I'm not giving her enough credit. She figured out that people would much rather hear talking points than any ham-fisted idea that came from that hollow space between her ears.

Besides, I'm not saying she's a terrible person or isn't good at anything. I'm sure she does a great job of coloring inside the lines and even though she's still trying to fit that round peg in the square hole, she did figure out the triangular one right away.

Yup. !0 or 11 (Applause.) in there I missed.

Obama 8.6
Palin 8.5

Close enough for government work, eh?

When I was in grad school for my reading specialist degree, my professors told us that most everything you see on TV is written on a 3rd - 6th grade level. Newspapers are a little higher at 6th - 8th grade level. Many books high school kids read aren't equivalent to their grade level. Of Mice and Men is written on a 7th grade level (I think), but I read it my 12th year of school.

I can buy it. Have you seen doctor's handwriting?

This isn't handwriting analysis, but writing. Syntax, semantics.....

You have to be careful with readability formulas. If you want to compare yours to Palin's, you have to use the same formula. They used Flesch-Kincaid. What does Word use?

Unfortunately Palin's understanding of much of the world including government, economy and geography is probably no greater than an 8 grade level.

I am not, however, surprised that Palin seems to resonate with people who have 8th grade reading comprehension levels.

Word uses the Flesch-Kincaid, too.

I just checked one of my grad school assignments and it got 15.6.

Also, palin's resignation speech and acceptance speech at the RNC got a 9.1 and 9.0, respectively. Higher than obama's inaugural address.
