Controversial Russian sculptor Zurab Tsereteli wants to create a monument higher than the Eiffel Tower.

"The height of the Eifel Tower is 300 meters, and this will be 400 meters high [monument]," Tsereteli said.

The project is still in its infancy however and the sculptor declined to reveal further details.

Tsereteli's 12 grandiose sculptures in Moscow are often mocked by the Russian public as pompous and out of place.

His most controversial work, a colossal 94-meter-tall statue of Peter the Great on the banks of the Moscow River, has faced major criticism since its unveiling in 1997.
