Russia allegedly used every major social media platform to influence the 2016 US election, a report claims.

Research is expected to say YouTube, Tumblr, Instagram and PayPal - as well as Facebook and Twitter - were leveraged to spread propaganda.
=====================================
The 2 reports to be published this week paint a dark picture of a highly organized & skilled effort by Russian military intelligence to influence the 2016 in Trump's favor. With the narrow margin of his victory, the Russian effort paid off apparently. Putin got what he wanted: chaos & discord in the U.S. government.

'Its authors criticise the "belated and uncoordinated response" by tech firms.' Social media was successfully weaponized by the Russians.

The most important element in these reports is that the Russian effort is continuing with an apparent objective of influencing the 2020 election in Trump's favor.

If Russia...or any other country or organization, for that matter...has any success in this kind of action, it only speaks to the stupidity of the American voter.

But hey...perhaps Congress should take steps to ensure this kind of action never happens again, eh? Perhaps they should pass a law that social media...if they are an American company...is not allowed to do business with anyone who is not an American.

Those stupid American voters NEED Congress to protect them...since they are too stupid to protect themselves.

More like social media was weaponized by the Russians but there is no evidence that social media affected the outcome. There is NO evidence as you stated that their propaganda campaign was a "success."
I point you to the proof that the senate judiciary committee concluded last spring-May 2018.

Senate report: No evidence that Russians changed vote tallies in 2016

Just waiting for it to slowly dawn on the anti-Trumpers that the Steele dossier was the most successful Russian disinformation campaign of all, and that they played a major role in its success.

I am curious, what sort of evidence could show that or would be acceptable to someone like you?

Now you speak the truth. Freudian slip?

I know a whole slew of stupid american voters that voted on the grounds of fake memes russians created. Like ones claiming HRC supported last day abortion. Or the nonsense about Soros.

I am absolutely disgusted the "patriot" party is OK with foreign countries buying and spreading political ads to influence our elections.

I really, really am. I cannot, for the life of me, fathom how the warhawk party is somehow OK with this.

Bull****. There is absolutely no way you can claim the russian lie campaign wasn't successful. It absolutely was. Did they go in and fidget numbers directly? I doubt it. But I can say for sure, I've got friends whom voted for Trump based STRICTLY on Memes tied to Russian nationals.

THOSE votes counted.

You, sir, are selling snake oil.

No, All Americans need the protection of our laws. You most of all. Foreign govt.s are forbidden to meddle in our elections and the Americans that helped them are traitors.

You should be more disgusted with those stupid American voters. I mean, seriously, do you want the kind of people who would get sucked into online scams to be the ones electing our leaders and representatives?

Well, cool. Lobby Congress to reign in those social media companies that allow that stuff to happen. That's the only way to protect stupid Americans.

Then that would be Fusion and those who indirectly hired them to get anti-Trump intelligence from Russian sources.

That is only part of the problem, we need to rebuke any nation that attempts to break our laws and bring those citizens that helped them to justice too. Making such behavior too risky and expensive is how you deter such crimes by adversary nations and unscrupulous politicians looking for an edge.

You mean Russian INFORMANTS. There is a big difference. Putin wanted Trump to win and said so. BTW Much of the dossier has been verified as true.

(And now we know those negotiations went on at least until June 2016 despite Trump's denial that he had any dealings with Russia)

Oh... So we believe the KGB guy and trust annonymous Russian sources when convenient...

Steele was a British MI6 agent who spent his career as a specialist in combating Russian espionage. His standing with the CIA is impeccable.

The BS spread by the IRA and then repeated by right-leaning outlets most definitely affected the election in many ways. Hell, we've see it spread here day after day. Even on this thread.

What laws were broke?

Should we go to war with Russia over some memes on social media?

So...what are you going to do when an ally does that? Rebuke them?

We have never gone to war with Russia for the same reason the Russians won't ever go to war with us. It's suicide. We do need to increase sanctions on them until it hurts enough for them to come clean and stop the meddling though. They are vulnerable to sanctions now that they compete in the world market. Something we did not have with the USSR.

Well, he was fired from the FBI for lying. He has also said, under oath, that he doesnt know the identity of much of the sources for the information in his dossier and that it should be vetted and verified before being used (Comey of course just testified, again, that the dossier was unverified).

Its no slam on Steele to be skeptical of Russian intelligence. But a willingness to trust and believe anti-Trump info from annonymous Russian sources, when we know Russia targeted the 2016 election, is ridiculous and absurd.

Of course. It does not matter what nation is doing it. The laws are quite clear.

LOL!!

And what do you do when that ally tells you to piss up a rope?

I know...sanctions on them, right?

But we are in the Post Truth Era and the ends justify the means now....so....

Yes like the sanctions Trump has threatened our allies with because he doesn't like the treaty that prevented Iran from building a bomb.
