I don't have a dog in this fight other than protecting free expression from government censorship and coercion. Obviously, the Russian state has little respect for such western ideas and shown various ways to squelch it - the most obvious of which, even the most brain-dead Russia supporter knows, is the frequent murder by state security of journalists. 47 murdered since the fall of communism.

The NYT, BBC, and others are being limited or shut down for obvious reasons, they provide facts and opinion that put Putin and his gang in a bad light. When the Russian state tells you, for example, to call it a "special military operation" and not "a war", and you don't obey, there are consequences.

Thankfully, of late at least they haven't murdered any western media journalists...yet!

Correct. I doubt the Russians are translating the military guests who claim that Russia made a serious blunder, is taking losses, and bogged down. And I certainty doubt they are translating Griffin's reporting, which often debunks Tucker, among others.

Russians' cherry picks the commentators and specific statements and tell their gullible people that this is what most Americans believe.
