Rule by decree passed for Chavez

Hasn't this been a continual plague in the region? Dictators promise some type of popular change, get elected, and slowly strangle the country into their control?

Chavez has done a lot of authoritarian things while he has been in office, and we have yet to see the results however. Did he not just recently nationalize the entire oil sector that has been powering his social pet projects? He loses the benefit of foreign companies invest, and in particular foreign companies that invest in the oil fields and provide maintenance, while the government sits back and collects revenue.

I say he's screwing up his country, however I do not know a lot about Venezuela or its foreign policies.

I agree. You dont know much about VZ. I suggest you read a number of different sources about it to find out. IMO you should remember when doing your research that there are many parties in the US and on the net that are dead against a left wing success in LA as they fear its spread around the region. When this happens they will no longer be able to blame the poverty of these countries that have followed the Washington line for decades on their natural latin corruption. These forces will tell any lie and reframe any history to make it look like these hispanics are currently poor because theyre also lazy and corrupt.

And therein lies the problem with your preferred method of government. You aren't measuring "success in Latin America" by the ability to lift people out of poverty, but by the ability to blame the US for the poverty.

Eh? So if more people in LA blame the US for their poverty then their more successful?

Aw I get it! Your feelings are hurt cos so many LAs dont like your govs historical policies! Thats a shame, have a kleenex.

Or maybe what you mean is that while you (ie US gov & citizens on the right for example) blame their poverty on their Latin corruption they blame their poverty on the policies the US has pushed on the continent. Your probably right, hundreds of millions of people that are just too lazy, stupid and corrupt to lift themselves out of poverty. Probably too drunk on tequila and cocaine half the time eh?
