I believe I'm on record here at DP about Rubio. When Trump nominated him for Sec. State, I expected Rubio to work to support the IC every chance he gets. I believe the words I used back then was that Trump needs to keep him on a tight rein.

But what I've seen from him is total support for Trump's agenda and him using his experience...especially from his Senate days...to do a very good job for the President.

Today was a fine example of him in action. When he was faced with a scathing attack from Sen. Van Hollen, Rubio kept his cool and then asked the Committee Chairman to allow him to respond. He then dealt, calmly...but unequivocally...with all the attacks Van Hollen mounted against him.

Here...watch it for yourself at the 6:40 mark.

LOL, when 2028 rolls around Sundance will tell you who to support, and it won't be little Marco.

Little Marco is trying to get in MAGA's good graces and challenge the Musk/Thiel controlled Vance for the GOP nomination, both groveling to Trump for an endorsement. And when neither gets the coveted orange man's endorsement, they'll sink faster than DeSantis's joke of a presidential bid in 2023.

Like I've said many times before, you people have nobody worth a damn to be Trump's successor in 2028, not one single person. And Trump's handlers are 100% aware of it, which is why there will be an attempt to run the senile orange guy himself again, which will ultimately fail.

I'll wait until campaign season and make up my own mind...like I always do.

He comes across WAY better than I thought he would be.

Little Marco obliterated Senator Van Hollen, good and proper.

I was shocked to hear Van Hollen level so many ad hominem attacks against Marco, but Marco wisely allowed Van Hollen to stage his own face-plant. These democrats in Congress are the ones who are causing democrats to leave the Party and become independents.

Why would Rubio being a political opportunist toadie be surprising to anyone?

Rubio might have responded to Van Hollen's criticisms, but the criticisms were all spot on, and Rubio's responses were weak.

This is how democracies descend into fascism.

Van Hollens was grandstanding and, when Rubio put him in his place, he flipped out. Not a good look on his part.

Rubio in no way out him in any place.

Rubio believes in nothing so he Gish galloped his way out of it.

Funny how the raving democrat cries the blues when their opponent gets a chance to respond.....they always immediately go to silence their free speech. Rubio stiff armed his way through to a TD.

Tell me where Van Hollins wasn't correct.

The reason people on our side "flip out" when your side lies its a$$ off is because, as somebody said on another thread, "the rubes will believe it." No matter how outrageous the lie, no matter how much evidence is presented that the liar is lying, the rubes will believe it, because they want to. This widespread disregard for the truth is an insidious rot within our society.

You were surprised at Rubio because you thought he was not completely "MAGA," meaning you didn't think that he would go along with trump when the BS got really deep. A willingness to kneel down and spew the crazy lies that trump demands has become the acid test for Republican congressmen, not conservative values, or anything else. Just swallow when it's your turn, or you'll get primaried.

Van Hollin made the understandable mistake of voting to confirm Rubio, thinking he might be one of the few sane members of the cabinet, compared to the utter trash that was being confirmed by a tiny partisan majority. He was supposed to be the designated driver of the clown car, but he's just another clown.

I bet Georgia governor Brian Kemp will run in 2028. I think that's why he declined to run for the Senate seat in Ga. If he runs he will be at the pants off Rubio and Vance in a primary.

Of course. He threw away any principles and you follow suit for trump.

Trump leaves and you both will "find jesus" again

I wanted Rubio to be the nominee in 2016 because I thought he would make an excellent president.

Then, for many years, I didn't even see him as someone who was making much of a positive splash in the Senate. At that point, I decided I'd likely been wrong about him in 2016.

Then, he became one who many expected had a good chance of being chosen as Trump's VP, and I went right back to liking him and thinking he might be the best choice. Then Trump chose him for his current role as SoS. I think he's great and exactly as you said - calm and unequivocal. I also think his experience is really serving him well in this role.

It seems I keep returning to thinking highly of Rubio's abilities and potential in new roles. I like the guy.

Kemp has no chance. Maybe in 2012 he had a chance, but the GOP is a much different party now.

IMO, the GOP nominee will be whoever get Trump's endorsement in 2028 (assuming Trump's handlers don't attempt some shenanigans to get him to run for a third term). And I don't think it will be Rubio, Vance, and definitely not Kemp.

Rubio used to say that he believes in things.

This shows that he believes in nothing.
If he does run it will be interesting if he tries to pivot back to a more traditional GOP position, but what should be clear to him is the party is now part of the MAGAverse so I doubt we'll see the old GOP ever again. After all the water carrying he's done for Trump and the 180 turns he's done on his previously held positions, the attack ads would write themselves.
