Karl Rove has decided to play hardball with Republican members of the Judiciary Committee, especially with Arlen Specter, who is taking the position that Bush's wiretapping has violated Federal law.

Rove is doing a lot of armtwisting, and threatening that any Republican who votes his conscience and sides against the administration will be targets when they come up for reelection.

You know, if the administration really thought what they were doing was legal, they would go through the process instead of trying to derail it. After all, if they are innocent, then what do they have to fear?

I heard that last night on Keith Olbermann and wondered if it was true. If it is, how disgusting.

The problem for Karl Rove is that these threats are empty, and the GOP senators know this. With Bush's approval rating in the high 30s, no senator really fears his wrath. And in the case of Arlen Specter, his next election isn't until 2010 when Bush will be long gone and this will be forgotten.

This is an election year and being cozy with Bush might not be a good re-election strategy.

The sources said the blacklist would mean a halt in any White House political or financial support of senators running for re-election in November.

White House has offered to help loyalists with money

That's the name of the game. If you want some of the RNC loot, you gotta toe the party line. Why do you think DeLay was/is so into grabbing as much money as he could wring out of donors. Money is power. Money will make you dance like a marionette. :(
