Here is an informative albeit quite long article on how we got to this point with respect to the Central American migrants on the border. It dates the problems there and with US involvement to the 1970s-80s, but one could say it goes back further decades to when FDR supposedly said of Nicaragua's dictator Somoza, "he's a son of a bitch, but he's OUR son of a bitch." Our current challenges with migrants from the region are spoken of these days with scant reference to the countries' histories of mass murder and torture or US facilitation of same.

One can scroll down through the article to below the picture of Crista Ramos to get to the summary of the history. Then return to read how it affected just one family.

Biden is inheriting a problem, but not just from trump. You are correct--this dilemma has been decades in the making.

It's incredibly hypocritical for white Americans to get hysterical about incoming migrants supposedly taking their land and their jobs, when that is exactly what their ancestors did centuries ago.

America has jobs, liberties and opportunities. Those are strong 'pull' factors.
Central America has few jobs, liberties or opportunities. This last fall-winter two massive hurricanes hit Central America, destroying crops and homes. These are strong 'push' factors. The result is not surprising.
