Perhaps Romney’s most surprising discovery upon entering the Senate was that his disgust with Trump was not unique among his Republican colleagues. “Almost without exception,” he told me, “they shared my view of the president.” In public, of course, they played their parts as Trump loyalists, often contorting themselves rhetorically to defend the president’s most indefensible behavior. But in private, they ridiculed his ignorance, rolled their eyes at his antics, and made incisive observations about his warped, toddlerlike psyche. Romney recalled one senior Republican senator frankly admitting, “He has none of the qualities you would want in a president, and all of the qualities you wouldn’t.”

Very few of them are willing to say what they actually think publicly. And all of them are hoping the charges stick so they can be rid of Trump. It’s incredibly sad. I have lost a lot of respect for them. Disagreeing on politics is fine but, when you endanger the country by letting an authoritarian toddler take over your party that places you in a different category.

All that article tells us is stuff we already know: The bulk of the Senate Republicans were/are never Trumpers...but pretend(ed) otherwise.

However, this isn't something Romney didn't know about before he ran for the Senate. He's lying, which isn't surprising. What is surprising is that he admits their duplicity now. I guess he realizes that the Republican rank and file has all the proof of them being never Trumpers they need and...like him...their days are numbered.

Romney read the writing on the wall. He knew he'd be primaried, lose the nomination all because he voted to convict tfg twice so he decided to take out other GOP lawmakers with him. Former guy took 58.1 % to Biden's 37.6%. So much for religiosity in Utah.

Good deflection. I think it might enjoy more success if you post a picture of her "cackling" in some manner. I'm sure you can photoshop something that gets the base excited. Remember that when deflecting to Kamala Harris, most people don't have a strong visual impression of her so you need to step in and really bolster your whataboutism with some media assets.

Video clip would be better, if you're going for a winning deflection, but a picture will get the job done.

It's why these revelations do nothing for those who make them; especially if they think this is some kind of redemption. These folks were enabling Trump because they wanted to get their policies passed through legislation and never bothered to push back on Trump when it mattered, it's a lack of courage indeed. It just makes them a bunch of opportunists too scared of the bully they backed; toadies are even worse than the bullies.
