Interesting interview on 60 minutes last night. Gates had nothing good to say about Biden as President, VP or any other office he's held.

"been wrong on nearly every major foreign policy and national security issue over the past four decades."

" he believes Biden made a mistake in Afghanistan in the way he handled the withdrawal. "

Or one could say: Joe Biden believes that Robert Gates has been wrong on top Foreign policy issues for decades. Opinions are like ass,,,, everybody has one.
Various countries change their foreign policies as the world changes...not just us. It's like a bunch of weathermen predicting the weather 6 months from now.
It's a rough problem depending on many variables and who-and-what-is-there.

Thanks for the reminder.
Typical FOX “News” cherry picking. Publish the slant you want, and edit out what you want to be overlooked. Anything to distort or skew the full picture.

“Anderson Cooper: What's happened in Afghanistan has been devastating for President Biden. Domestically can Biden recover?
Robert Gates: Oh, I think so. I think that the submarine deal between the United States, United Kingdom and Australia, I think is a great strategic move. It sends a powerful message all around the world.
Anderson Cooper: To China?
Robert Gates: All around the world, including to China, that the United States still has a lot of arrows in the quiver. And-- and that we will remain a force to be reckoned with in the western Pacific.”

And then there's this ripe delicious fruit . . . . .

“Anderson Cooper: Do you think the former president will run again? President Trump?
Robert Gates: I hope not!
Anderson Cooper: Why do you hope not?
Robert Gates: I am a strong believer in institutions whether it's the intelligence community, the Defense Department, the State Department, the Justice Department, the FBI. He disdains institutions and-- and I think he did a lot to weaken institutions.
Anderson Cooper: You called him a thin skinned, temperamental, shoot from the hip and lip, uninformed Commander-in-Chief. Too great a risk for America, you said.
Robert Gates: I would not edit that at all. (LAUGH)”

Biden is currently president so Biden is the only real issue. Gates also said he botched the withdrawal.

Ok, perhaps he did. Every president botches something. Retreats from war zones are messy endeavors. We did get 125,000 people out of the country in about 10 days with minimal loss of life. That was pretty impressive.

Biden (and Trump) wanted us completely out of Afghanistan. Many in government believed we should have maintained a presence there... so there is that difference of opinion. That all said, even with a suggested "botched" exit from Afghanistan, Biden remains an upgrade from the previous President who botched almost everything he touched (or didn't touch, such as the pandemic). Biden's miscues may have led to the deaths a few American soldiers; the previous guys mishandling of the pandemic likely led to the unnecessary deaths of 100's of thousands of Americans

PS - The previous guy had much to do with backing Biden into a corner and tying his hands on this one, so he get to share in the credit/blame of the outcome.

Only if you live in a universe with no history, and no context. The real issue is that FOX News labors under the gross misapprehension that they can foment buyers remorse over Biden among an electorate who will never forget what the alternative was! To them, and to Trump's mindless minions, Gates is a credible authority only when he slams Biden - so they quote him. But when the same very credible, very quoteable Mr. Gates puts the screws to their hero, suddenly he isn't worth listening to - so mute him. That is the only real issue. The gross hypocrisy of OP.

Biden letting illegals into America without testing them for covid and vaccinating them bother you at all?
When this new strain of particularly virulent Delta Covid first emerged in other countries why didn't Biden close the borders fast enough and hard enough to keep it from getting here?

Two standards. One for Trump another for Biden.

Gates views on Trump, Clinton, Bush, Carter all would be interesting but his opinions on Biden are the only relevant ones.

No they aren't - unless you let FOX News tell you what's relevant. I don't.
Read my post #6.

Gates said he agreed with most of Trumps policies. How is that relavant today? It's Biden's policies that are in place and most of those were merely reversals of Trump policies.

It is no more, nor less, relevant than the opinions of dozens of other ex-government officials. You take it for what it's worth, but it certainly isn't gospel.

It's early. Reversing Trump policies was an understandable priority. Biden's policies are only beginning to emerge, and the pandemic event still influences and dictates too much of them. I suspect a better perspective of Biden's policies might be had a year from now.

Except that when you examine Joe's history, his choice more often than not were on the wrong side of what worked and what was eventually considered correct. Joe's a D.C. swamp creature with very little good old common sense.

Watch the “60 Minutes interview”, instead of parroting Fox Noise.

This was a horrible botching. The fact that the military had to scramble to evacuate people literally under the gun is testament to how bacly it was botched.

'Upgrade' is becoming more questionable. He botched the Afganistan withdrawl. He botched the southern border. He botched the infrastructure bill. He's botching the economy. He's botching the pandemic response (or certainly doing no better than Trump).

PS - The previous guy had much to do with backing Biden into a corner and tying his hands on this one, so he get to share in the credit/blame of the outcome.

Deflection for sure. Trump was out off office for a long time before Biden's final withdrawl. It's all on him.

I did. Did you?

Not yet.

But you chose to parrot Fox instead, and then tried to dismiss the parts you and Fox left out. Did you really think no one was going to notice.

Thanks for admitting you didn’t watch the interview as I did and are knee jerk reacting

Pertinent clips because Biden is in charge at the present time not Trump.
No, not at all. Your out of context quotes are a big fail on your part. Your quote mining to make a point is a propganda/lie technique and would be disappointing if not expected.
