One of if not the greatest military historian of the last century or so. His Intelligence in Warfare is required reading for Marines in that field.
 
Agreed. An excellent military historian.
 
The Face of Battle - one of the best military history books of all time. Takes a completely different approach from the "storyteller/narrative" style of military history and included actual analysis, both in the technical and psychological realm of battle.

Damn, this was the first I've heard of it. His book A History of Warfare is deeply insightful and a timeless philosophical comment on human nature.
