WASHINGTON — President-elect Donald J. Trump plans to name the former Texas governor Rick Perry as his secretary of energy.
The selection of Mr. Perry to lead the energy agency would offer a rich paradox: During a televised debate in 2011, Mr. Perry intended to list the Department of Energy among agencies he wanted to eliminate, but he could not remember its name.
While Texas is rich in energy resources and Mr. Perry is an enthusiastic advocate of extracting them, it is not clear how that experience would translate into leading what is also a major national security agency. Despite its name, the Department of Energy plays the leading role in designing nuclear weapons and in ensuring the safety and reliability of the nation’s aging nuclear arsenal through a constellation of scientific laboratories.

We know have a man who will lead a government agency, a agency in which he is on record saying that he wants to eliminate. :doh

Or, maybe, such a guy is the best way to fix a backwards department so that it serves a real purpose?

So you claim that the "best" guy to fix an agency is the guy who wanted to eliminate it since he thinks it is unnecessary?

At least he has a degree in science unlike Spencer Bodman.

How will he have time to do that if he's busy getting Texas out of the USA and eliminating same-sex marriage?
Fill us in.
It looks to me like he already has more on his plate than he'll ever get done.
Donald Trump's "best people"
LOL, yeah good times for snarky communists that are only good at zingers, and corruption....
I can see you wanting it cut completely but why 90%? I don't even believe it would constitute as an agency. And if so why even pay Perry to do the job?Mr. Perry is an outstanding choice for Energy. Hopefully, Mr. Perry can fulfill his promise and get rid of this extraneous department or at least cut it by 90%.
I certainly he knows about molten salt thorium reactors. We need thousands of them.
For the sake of discussion, the Wiki page for the Dept Of Energy: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_Department_of_Energy
Communists, imaginary communists everywhere
