What is interesting is the McCarthy got 35 votes and some of the GQP folks are claiming there are back room deals being made.

Wonder how well this guy will do. At this time they are doing a roll call vote of the GQP caucus to see if he gets to 217.

Yeah, I was just hoping to get it Johnson's selection posted before anyone else did and while he was still a candidate.
Tough hurdles.

I like this quote from the article.

As votes were being tallied, Rep. Randy Weber of Texas left the room and said he’s not confident any of the candidates can get to 217, citing level of support for people who weren't even candidates.

When dozens of people "vote for 'other' — in police work they call that a clue,” he said

And this quote from CNN:

33 of 34 "other" votes on 2nd GOP conference speaker ballot were for McCarthy

From CNN's Melanie Zanona and Manu Raju

Rep. Drew Ferguson requested by unanimous consent to reveal who the “other” votes were on the second of the House Republican conference's secret-ballots for speaker, according to sources in the room, and 33 out of 34 votes were for Kevin McCarthy, while one was for Jim Jordan.
Ferguson’s request comes amid growing distrust within the GOP ranks over their colleagues’ motivations, and some lawmakers fear McCarthy allies are trying to orchestrate a comeback for the deposed speaker.
Rep. Mark Green withdrew from the race after this happened and said that “games are being played here” and “we went from 2 'others' to 34 'others' in just a couple of hours,” according to a source familiar with the matter. And then Green endorsed Rep. Mike Johnson, who has been the top vote-getter on the past two ballots.

I thought the roll call vote was at 9 AM tomorrow. Let me read your link and see if that's changed.

Ken Buck reported McCarthy got 40+ votes. That info in near the bottom of your OP link.

Yes, I was reading multiple articles and an earlier vote had it at 33 of 34 were for McCarthy. That article also had comments from GQP reps that something fishy was going on.

See post #5.

GQP, :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I'm using that!!

It's under license. For a six pack of locally brewed product you may use it 100 times or for the next three weeks, which ever comes first.
Totally worth it!!

Rep. Mike Johnson, it’s your turn in the barrel!

They should just put McCarthy back in place. It’d be humiliating for that shitheel Gaetz and the other defectors but, at this point, it’s the only path to minimize humiliation for the whole rest of the party, because they could claim they put on the clown show to buy themselves time to whip the crazy 8 back into place.

Once more I am sick to my stomach. When Emmer dropped out I thought that the caucus would come to its senses and nominate a more middle person between the nut jobs and the moderates. Even though there were four others (Hind dropped out), three of them at least got a "B" on Ukraine and one a "C-". Instead they nominated another Ukraine basher who, like Jordan, got an big fat "F" on helping Ukraine.

My hope is that six Republicans bolt and vote for the Democrats to take over. The GOP is one huge mess.

I never in my life would have believed that in the United States of America, a Congressperson would be required to say that their party's candidate won a presidential election that he actually lost, in order to become the Speaker of the House of Representatives and third in line to be president.

It boggles the mind.

Ever since Plato, ancients and modernists alike have recognized that autocracy and democracy are linked by a serious weakness; the least educated and most base of the human masses love those who appeal to their emotions and interests. "The mob", adores demagogues who validates their own ignorance's as "truth" and flatters them with support for their "common sense". They will freely grant such people absolute power and immunity from the law.

Trump is a modern version of Andrew Jackson, Huey Long, William Jennings Bryan, and/or the fictional Lonesome Rhodes. In spite of his money he says what the sea of angry nobodies want to hear - no matter how ludicrous or crazy it is.

So yes, to survive in his party one must please the loons who, in turn, worship Trump. So like a cultural revolution struggle session they must demonstrate their fidelity to Trump by parroting the outlandish - like that Trump really won the election.

The roll call I was referring to was just the GQP caucus. Not the entire House.
Me too. I was also referring to the GOP caucus roll call vote. That roll call is at 9 AM tomorrow.

Does "Hind" equal Hern?

MJ to the rescue!

Mike Johnson's plan:
  • Restore trust
  • Advance a comprehensive policy agenda
  • Promote individual members
  • Engage members
  • Effectively message
  • Build and utilize external coalitions
  • Develop and grow the GOP majority

Fuzzy, vague, meaningless bullshit. He may win in a landslide.
