Republicans Make Voter Registration Drives Illegal = a felony = what about your state? VOTER SUPPRESSION

The city isn’t closing the McD’s. You as the store owner are choosing to close them, you’re not being suppressed you are making a choice. This law does not prevent voter registration drives,
It doesn't? The OP is false? If that's the case, then what does the law do?

Repeating it doesn’t make it true. We will never see eye to eye or agree on this.
It is true. Those are facts.

You don't disagree with me, you disagree with the facts and the definition.

Nothing in there about registration. It's the wrong law or the OP is fabricated.

Either way, voter suppression is sometimes easy to quantify, and if a law restricts registration opportunities, it is suppressive by definition.

It’s a Razoo OP so chances are it’s fabricate, that link was the one imbedded in the OP article. So again this law is not a voter suppression law

Volunteers doing voting registration drives should receive training as I did ........... yes the first chance I get I will volunteer again in whatever state I happen to be in HOWEVER I will also ask for legal counsel to be on site.

I've never known anyone to present themselves as an employee ............

Typical Minority Party Bogus GOP BS to slow the process........

New laws in Florida, Kansas and Ohio have sent shockwaves through voting rights groups, which fear these measures may turn their volunteers into felons or may subject them to substantial fines just because they help register new voters.

“All of these laws are a backlash for folks participating in the presidential election,” said Michelle Kanter Cohen, policy director and senior counsel for the Fair Elections Center, a Washington, D.C.-based voting rights organization. “There was huge turnout among new voters, young voters, voters of color—those who use these organizations to register to vote.”

The Kansas law, which went into effect in July, made it a felony for people to engage in conduct that “gives the appearance of being an election official” or “that would cause another person to believe a person engaging in such conduct is an election official.”

For groups such as the League of Women Voters that have conducted voter registration drives at farmers markets, naturalization ceremonies and street fairs, this broad language could open volunteers to criminal charges if there is a misunderstanding.

“Anything that we do can be perceived as similar to an election official,” Lightcap said. “We didn’t want to risk anybody inadvertently getting in trouble for things we’ve been doing for many, many years.”

Republican state Reps. Blake Carpenter and Emil Bergquist, chair and vice chair of the committee that drafted the bill, did not respond to requests for comment.

This law is not a voter suppression law.
Of course it is.

It is, in fact, by definition, a voter suppression law.

I keep proving that to you with facts and the definition of the word.

You keep sticking your head in the sand and denying the facts.

Have you scanned over the law? Because with a reply like that the answer is a huge No

Fact:

"Nonprofits including the League of Women Voters of Kansas, Kansas Appleseed, Loud Light and others sued the state before the law took effect July 1, halting voter registration drives and outreach efforts for fear of running afoul of the new provisions"

Fact:

It is voter suppression. By definition. Not sure why you are having such a hard time with basic facts.

Why would republicans DO such a controversial action?

If you would take a second and read the law for yourself, you would see how wrong you are. I have the actual law on my side, while you’re going off a rumor you wish to believe is true. You have been given the tools to end your ignorance if you wish.

This question is still on the table? Why would they want to stifle voter registration? To prevent new voters from
showing up on election day aka voter suppression.

Oh for christs sake man.

Think.

Of course the law doesn't say "the purpose of this law is to reduce voter registration" they arent going to say the quiet part out loud.....don't be obtuse.

The law has the effect of reducing voter reducing voter registration......that is an undeniable fact....and that makes it, by definition, voter suppression.

This isn't rocket science.

Poll tax laws didn't say the purpose of this is to reduce the number of poor people, most of whom are black, from voting.

But they had that effect, and were classic voter suppression laws.

For christs sake man, take a history class, think!

Banning voter registration drives does not stop anybody from voting.
How about voter rolls purges? Do not tell me that they do not purge voters who vote on a regualr basis as I went to the polls to vote several years ago only to find I had been purged. The oonly good thing is that in my state there is same day registration and having voted in the same plling place for over 35 years, the poll workers knew me. In many states and polling places voters are not so lucky.

Do you live in one of the ERIC states?

Never mind. I don't care. This thread is about voter registration drives...not voter roll purges. When you have to get into whataboutism, you've failed.

Bye.

Purging is additional to the above.........

You are grasping at straws and have been proven wrong multiple times. Your gullibility has gotten the better of you. You have now moved on to admitting at least the law doesn’t say what you have claimed so you did make some progress before stuck your head back in the sand. You’ll never admit your error and see the light so stay stuck on stupid if you wish

Why would republicans DO such a controversial action?
Because high voter turnout results in more Democrats being elected. Lower turnout elects more Republicans. Simple as that. Therefore, anything that can make it more difficult or time consuming to vote is a worthy effort on the part of Republicans.

1. Discourage or ban voter registrations
2. Restrict or eliminate early voting.
3. Close polling locations, particularly in areas which tend to vote democratic.
4. Restrict mail-in ballots.
5. Outlaw providing volunteer mass transportation to polling locations.
6. Purge voter rolls as close to election day as possible.
7. Require government issued ID to vote.
8. Justify all of these actions on the basis of maintaining election integrity. Never mind that none of these have ever been a problem in the past.

Democracy was all good and fine, as long as old white straight men were in the driver's seat. Now that the complexion of the American electorate is changing (women, gays, minorities, etc.) those old white guys see themselves being pushed aside and they are not about to give up without a fight.

At this point, the GOP is not even worried about backlash when their true motives are exposed. Either they (old white straight guys) figure out how to maintain control or they would just as soon burn the whole thing down.

The really sad thing about all of this is how the GOP is able to convince many of these measures' targets that it is in America's best interests that they should support voter restrictions.
