Republicans will be republicans and assholes will be assholes. Sometimes, like in this instance the two are the same thing.Republicans kill successful birth-control program in Colorado | Denver Sun Times
Republicans in the Colorado Senate killed an effort this week to set aside funding for a birth control program that provides IUDs to low-income women. The Colorado Family Planning Initiative has been praised for contributing to a 40 percent drop in teen births over the last five years. The program, previously funded by a private donor, won an award in Washington, D.C. just days ago.

Foolish is installing IUDs in teens, the most likely to have life threatening problems from IUDs.
the real question is if it was such a successful private program why did the govt take it over?
The government was given a privately funded grant, the legislation would provide state funding, thus expanding the program.

This research shows it does not cause serious side effects.

Studies done in the 70s, 80s, and early 90s showed an increase in serious pelvic infections and infertility among IUD users. As a result, for many years, practitioners strongly cautioned women against getting an IUD if they wanted to have children later, and often refused to provide IUDs to childless women due to fears about infertility. IUDs were also routinely denied to women who were not in long-term, stable relationships because of concerns they might get an STI that could be exacerbated by an IUD.
if its so successful why do they need to extract money from taxpayers wont they voluntarily donate to such a worthy cause
if its so successful why do they need to extract money from taxpayers wont they voluntarily donate to such a worthy cause
Because they want to EXPAND the program. The private grant money only goes so far.
the same reason we need to extract money from taxpayers to build roads and pay for police.
Roads and police are infrastructure, giving iuds to poor people is charity.
So dumb...on multiple levels.
I wonder how many prevented unwanted pregnancies by low income individuals pays for the cost of the program?
The government shouldn't be paying for a woman's private birth control. If she's poor she can get of medicaid and have the state pay for it via insurance. This whole entitlement to free birth control is wrong. Manage your own reproductive health and foot your own bill. Why waste money here when it can go to managing chronic disease or life threatening health problems?
okay that's fine, but it's still the correct answer to your question. we extract money from taxpayers for all sorts of things that advance the public interest. you may or may not agree with taxation on certain things but if you ask the question you should expect an answer.
I wonder how much cheaper it would be to have personal responsibility
