S. 3307 would increase federal spending by $4.6 billion on school meal programs, expand the size of government by creating or expanding 17 programs, place onerous unfunded mandates on local school districts and state governments, increase prices for paying families, and allow federal bureaucrats to determine what foods children can and cannot be served at school.
Just starting to look it over, but this is in the GOP executive summary:
Holy crap!

yep...establishing grant programs...creating new organizations (expanding government), placing all foster students on the free meal program (even tho foster parents are already provided money to support and sustain the kids), providing for the meals not only during the school year but also during the summer, etc etc etc...
Nah...this isnt bad legislation at ALL... lets just rush out and offer blanket support because some article says evil republicans are hurting the children. no worries...I doubt any of the senators actually read the legislation before THEY supported it either...
More and more and more and more and more government.
Of course, the Dems will just exclaim "Republicans want poor kids to starve to death!"
Context helps. Norly.
So, we shold not assure children get healthy food. Snacks ansd soda sell, so be it?

So, schools should stop providing lunch altogether?

Take a look at the bill. Read until you find the words, soda pop, or soft
drink . This bill isn't about junk food of starving children. It's about growing government.
So, schools should stop providing lunch altogether?
Maybe they should stop providing free lunches.
I don't really know, but way back when I was in school, I don't remember anyone getting them free. But then they cost like 40 cents
Some kids packed in brown bags and some kids walked home for lunch.
No one went hungry and I don't recall kids eating only junk.
It's time parents were given back the responsibility of feeding their kids.
