Republican Senator Says Party Should Change Position on Gay Marriage

Queue the "RINO" debate, I guess. At some point, you might be on the wrong side of an issue that 63% of Americans support and has connotations of discrimination.

Graham: GOP Should Take Gay Marriage Constitutional Amendment Out of Platform - NBC News

Not as long as Steve King and those like him are a member of the party. What an A-Hole. He compared the SSM decision to Dred Scott.

“Well, that turned into a civil war,” King said, “600,000 people killed to put an end to slavery *– to sort that mess out.”

Then there was the "civil disobedience" comment by Huckabee. Another moron.

Graham is right, but he's the wrong messenger. A bachelor running for President with a closet full of rumours about his sexuality is not the one to be focusing on the issue - that's not kind, but it's political reality.

Graham is right on most issues. Not all, but most. I've always liked him, even when he was in the House of Representatives, and hope he's at least part of the GOP ticket, if not at the top then VP. He has a great mind when it comes to foreign policy, international relations, the military as well as social policy (as seen in the OP's article).

As for his sexual orientation, it would not surprise me in the slightest that he would turn out to be gay. And, not only would I not be surprised, but it would not change my opinion of him or my respect for him in the slightest.

Lindsey Grahamnesty? HaHaHa. Why hasn't that boy ever married?

Beau! It's so good to see you. I've missed you.

I disagree, but that's why we are here in the first place.

Graham thinks that Iraq's troubles started with Obama, and really anyone who thinks that doesn't belong a foreign policy debate.

Not really what he thinks. Too simplistic.

No, it is what he thinks. He has never admitted that Iraq was a mistake, he thinks the war was won before Obama, and that Obama done ****ed it up and is the reason the Middle East has descended into chaos. Graham is ultimately a neocon war monger who promises more war, more death, and more Middle East involvement if he's elected.

That's fair, and true - but politics in the US is a blood sport and who the message carrier is is often more important than the message they carry. I think Santorum's comments on the issue were more valuable. He said, to paraphrase, that he disagrees with the Supreme Court decision, has disagreed with many of their decisions, but this is now the law of the land and conservatives believe strongly in the rule of law. Considering his Christian conservative credentials, those comments carry more weight, in my opinion.

Did not catch that quote - if he did say that, what an artful and astute retreat from a contentious issue, from an equally unlikely person.

He was being interviewed on CNN by Wolf Blitzer at the time. I believe it was the afternoon of the Supreme Court decision coming down. I don't really like Santorum's politics, but he seems to have mellowed quite a bit this second time around.

Good point. I haven't heard of him (Santorum) making this statement. In fact, I'm extremely surprised to hear it, given his evangelical roots.

I was surprised to hear it too - I was trying to find the clip on the CNN site but didn't come up with it. He appeared to have mellowed since we last saw him in action 4 years ago.

Mellowing is about all he could do. There wasn't that much room to the right available for him to move in that direction. That's why every time I read his name I pronounced it Sanatorium.
