Hypocritres.

Most of the white men Protestant politicians in red states who pass strict anti-abortion legislation do so not out of “moral” objections, but rather for POLITICAL reasons to keep their far right extremists anti-abortion supporters happy.
In other words—hypocrites.
I highly suspect that this also applies to Trump.

Abortions will pretty much always be possible for folks like this - those with the power and wealth to get them.

The punishment generally falls on the poor, and even others, as we see in TX and L, depending on the law.

Rich men might want to ban abortion for women in general, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they want to eliminate the option for women that they're having sex with.

Worse to me is Republican women who had an abortion, or supported someone through an abortion, when they were of child bearing years and now support legislation to deny or restrict that right, the right they enjoyed, for other women. How do they convince themselves that is OK?

Not pretty much...always

Or the ones that believe, "hey, I got stuck having to have mine. So suck it up, it wasnt the end of the world." or "I had to suffer thru it, why shouldnt you?" Or "But being a mother is wonderful! It's so worth it, you'll love being a mother!"

That's not as bad as those who are content to deny others a right they used for whatever reason to strive for a better life for themselves or their children.

I'm confused. The left wants anytime, anyplace, any stage abortion. So why do you complain if a man is ok with abortion. Of if he may be personally opposed but his partner is not and he yeilds to their wishes.
Democrats just like to bitch.

Regarding the title, what do you mean by "vote against abortion"? Do you mean these politicians are pushing for a ban on any abortion at any point in a pregnancy? Or do they support a ban (with common exceptions) after 6 weeks, 10 weeks, 15 weeks, 20 weeks, etc.

Because if you think the conversation now is a binary choice of only two options - no abortions ever or any abortion all the way up until the point of birth, I think you'll find those are extremes in the minds of most. Except, currently, I think it's possible there might actually be a majority of Dems who do support the latter. Conversely, I think it would be a very, very small minority of Reps who support the former.

What is it you are considering "strict anti-abortion legislation" in your comment 1?

Perhaps some women who have had an abortion, or supported someone through an abortion, regret that it was not more difficult to get an abortion. They have a change of heart on the issue, Saying they "enjoyed" the right is misleading and kind of creepy.
Perhaps some women who have had an abortion are hoping to keep things as they were when they had an abortion out of guilt, I don't know. Seems if something is legal, it takes the sting off the regret maybe.

If you don't think your dig saying "republican women" got passed me, it did not, and your comment was rather cruel.

There's plenty:
"Since Roe was overturned in 2022, 14 states have enacted near-total abortion bans, while four states – Georgia, South Carolina, Florida and Iowa – have banned abortion past roughly six weeks of pregnancy."

And there would be a lot more if referendums in a number of states had not brought sanity back into the abortion laws in those states. And more to come, hopefully.

You didn't read the links. The one about Dejarlis in particular. He pressured his wife and girlfriend to get abortions, even though his public stance was pro life.

It is binary. It's a personal & then a medical decision. You know the stats about when they occur.

Those who don't think a woman is capable of making this decision for themselves then demean women.

If abortions are abhorrent to you then maybe put the effort into getting support for the programs that reduce the #.

Whew, no kidding about the choice of the word "enjoyed" - anywhere near the topic and reality of what abortion is.

Then you missed the point completely. What is being critiqued is the hypocrisy of people who are anti abortion but have the procedure done.

Is there any "number of weeks" limit on abortion you do not consider to be "strict anti-abortion measures"? Is so, what number is acceptable to you and no longer too strict, in your view?

At the bottom of this comment is what one of those Republican politicians have supported in terms of "voting against abortion". Two of the links in the OP are about this man.

This politician voted for abortion to be banned in his state after 22 weeks and that measure did indeed fail (too strict for his state). I would think many a Dem, not very long ago, would have considered that cut off point quite lenient and certainly not a "strict" abortion measure. But in the Dem party of 2024, that's not the case anymore. Dems have moved to a place where a limit (with common exceptions) on abortions after 22 weeks is now too "strict" for the Dem party. I think it's truly insane that nearly the entire party now wants no limits and that shift from a majority of Americans thinking limits after about 15 weeks was a compromise area has shifted all the way to no limits in what feels like practically overnight. And meanwhile, the gentle and friendly label of "reproductive freedom" has been conveniently attached to unlimited abortions.

"Holtorf was a sponsor of a failed 2020 measure to ban abortion in Colorado after 22 weeks."

I think you're missing the point.

Maybe these people respect a woman's right to choose but also understand that there is a second life involved and that maybe there should be some number of weeks where the baby's growth and development, in both body and mind, has been such that that life simply needs and deserves to have someone looking out for their rights too. Not all that long ago, the majority of the citizens of this country felt that there was a compromise point and where the mother's "choice" took precedent in the early stages, but the growing baby took precedent as the weeks moved forward.

That is actually different. There are a lot of women that have had abortions that then deal with profound guilt and second guess their decision. Abortion is a traumatic event. It effects people differently. A woman that deeply regretted her abortion could well become an anti abortion advocate based upon her personal experience. That would be sincere and understandable refinement of one's views based upon actual experience. I am strongly pro-choice, but I do respect this line of thinking. I know two people in this category.

That all said, even if you suddenly become "anti-abortion", I think you can hold the pro-life position without adopting the absurd, inhuman positions put forth by the American Taliban.
