A Democratic congresswoman disparaged U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement earlier this month, calling the federal agency a "terrorist organization."

Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) made the comments while delivering the keynote speech at the 2025 Netroots Nation annual conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. Netroots Nations is a nonprofit organization “that provides trainings, resources, and connection opportunities to help progressive activists create a more progressive and just world.” During her address, criticized many issues involving illegal immigration, including President Donald Trump, Border Czar Tom Homan, and ICE, claiming the federal agency continuously abuses people’s rights.

We have the right to control our borders and immigration.
All countries control their borders and immigration.
Rep. Delia Ramirez (D-IL) is a racist Latino nationalist who does not respect the sovereignty of the United States.

I agree with her. The organization needs to be purged, and its members stripped of their pensions and benefits and permanently blacklisted from all government service. At best, they should be allowed to walk away in disgrace and infamy. At worst, they should be criminally prosecuted for depriving people of their rights under the color of law.

She is of course wrong.

But I do believe too many ICE Agents are taking President Trump's leave (and enjoying it) to act out harshly pushing legal Constitutional limits and norms in their treatment of people, whether legal Citizens or illegal aliens.

Maybe people on the left don't view it in such simplistic terms? They view things like an adult. As in, some cops abuse their power, being a criminal doesn't mean all of your rights are forfeit, and federal troops in US cities is a problem. ICE specifically is being increased and being used as Trump's little intimidation force.

No, I rather think their view is a limited perspective, warped by too much emotion and too little reason. They're disconnected from the realities of crime and law enforcement and what those two endeavors represent.

Or maybe, and this is a possibility. Maybe they expect the Law Enforcement to obey the law. Maybe when we hear that they kept an American Citizen for 24 hours without giving her water, we say that's not right. Maybe when they treat people as animals instead of humans, we reject that.

Of course, the Founders agreed with us. That's why about half of the Bill of Rights, covers courts and restricts powers of police and gives rights to the accused.
