YouTube- Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine
I think this speech speaks for itself.

You're right. Instead of using tax revenue to help more Americans be able to afford health care, we should instead spend it on government programs to prepare the Earth for visitations from extra-terrestrials and make plans for diplomatic overtures as well as on plans and weapon systems to combat any who are hostile.
Because that's just what Reagan would do, and he's always right about everything.
Just the other day I was in my truck listening to someone on air talk about and discuss the health care bill. I actrually thought about this very speech. How timely that you posted it, quite apropos and as true today as it was then. Mr. Obama executes the "nuclear option" at his risk and at odds with the same public sentiment Reagan refers to here. Odd how little things have changed................:dohYouTube- Ronald Reagan Speaks Out Against Socialized Medicine

I've heard this one before. I agree with much he has to say but I get turned off a bit by the fear mongering on rationing.
I wouldn't say that it is "fear mongering" as much as it is an eventual reality. There is just NO possible way for government to take on all that the nations health care involves and not ration.
j-mac
Of course there isn't. However rationing is already happening today, but right now it is based on price. It would just be a different form of rationing.
Ah, but as things are now, if your health provider says he/she wants a test that the insurance won't cover, you have the option to pay for it yourself. The proposals from liberals so far, from what I see makes that against the law.
j-mac
Where exactly does it do that?

He made that speech before Medicare was passed over 40 years ago, and he ended up being wrong on all counts. So I guess history spoke for itself on that one.
It didn't take long to run into an "uh-oh" moment when reading the House's "health care for all Americans" bill. Right there on Page 16 is a provision making individual private medical insurance illegal.
When we first saw the paragraph Tuesday, just after the 1,018-page document was released, we thought we surely must be misreading it. So we sought help from the House Ways and Means Committee.
It turns out we were right: The provision would indeed outlaw individual private coverage. Under the Orwellian header of "Protecting The Choice To Keep Current Coverage," the "Limitation On New Enrollment" section of the bill clearly states:
"Except as provided in this paragraph, the individual health insurance issuer offering such coverage does not enroll any individual in such coverage if the first effective date of coverage is on or after the first day" of the year the legislation becomes law.
So we can all keep our coverage, just as promised — with, of course, exceptions: Those who currently have private individual coverage won't be able to change it. Nor will those who leave a company to work for themselves be free to buy individual plans from private carriers.
From the beginning, opponents of the public option plan have warned that if the government gets into the business of offering subsidized health insurance coverage, the private insurance market will wither. Drawn by a public option that will be 30% to 40% cheaper than their current premiums because taxpayers will be funding it, employers will gladly scrap their private plans and go with Washington's coverage.
The nonpartisan Lewin Group estimated in April that 120 million or more Americans could lose their group coverage at work and end up in such a program. That would leave private carriers with 50 million or fewer customers. This could cause the market to, as Lewin Vice President John Sheils put it, "fizzle out altogether."

Really? And what is Medicare's unfunded liability today? 37 Trillion? Yeah great success!

He made all these outlandish claims about Medicare would lead to Socialism / Communism and the destruction of American Democracy and a whole host of doom and gloom. He stated that doctors would be told by the government where to live and where to practice, and that "you and I are going to spend our sunset years telling our children and our children's children what it once was like in America when men were free."
He was wrong on all counts. He spent his sunset years in California with healthcare paid for by the government.

It does. It shows how completely wrong he was. It serves as a rather comical reminder of how unoriginal much of the silliness today has been.
How so, unless it has already been tried, so read first.

Correct. He was wrong.
Yeah, he kind of was President for 8 years, I think he deserved health care paid for by us don't you?
But I notice you completely ignored the unfunded liability of Medicare. Why? Medicare and Medicaid are disasters, that in many cases today doctors refuse to take patients on those programs because of the overburdenous regulation, and underpayment of services.
Fact is that Reagan was right, these programs have failed. That it is unpopular to do away with them is really not relevant.
j-mac
Not all together wrong. Maybe just off on the timing, but it is still being tried. and if the Nuclear Option is used by these current crop of Bolsheviks now retaining power he may have proved exactly on the target, just before his time.
j-mac
No, it's just some have gotten no more original than he was. Instead of actually working with what is actually proposed, the easy short cut is to scream socialism. Again, a very unoriginal effort. Lazy in fact.
PUHLEEZE! As if liberals like you don't continue to rattle off the demo talking points like robots regardless of what facts come out against them.....
Give me a break.
