Ranking Trump

On list of Presidents, where would you rank Trump?

  • Total voters
    100
  • Poll closed .
Well...this will be discussed for decades, so let's get a jump on the topic. :)

Historians will likely rank Trump as one of the worst presidents

Where do you put this guy?

Bottom 5 for sure.

Whether he is the worst of all time remains to be seen. There were some awful presidents before and after Lincoln, and Harding could give them all a run for the money.

But the way that 45 has completely butchered his response to the coronavirus, on top of all his corruption, narcissism, and general incompetence, does put him in the running for worst president we have ever had.

In my case, I can think of a few who might be worse than Trump or, at the very least, equally horrible.

Worst:
Andrew Johnson: Never elected, destroyed Reconstruction efforts and shoved black people back into the dark ages all over the South.

Andrew Jackson: Although a man of the people, he was divisive as hell and racist as ****. Trail of Tears make his the ugliest presidency, for sure.

Both of those clowns were worse than Don.

Kind of worst:
Gerald Ford: Never elected and then not winning the race he ran in, plus he pardoned the first proven Liar in Chief.

Not evil like Trump but equally as dumb.

Bottom dwellers:
James Buchanan: Like Trump, he defended slave states, stood up for racists and eventually ushered in the era of violence when Americans began killing each other (see Bleeding Kansas).

Franklin Pierce: Preceded Buchanan, but this guy was a Northerner who believed appeasing the racists down South by nullifying the Missouri Compromise was the answer. It wasn't.

"W": Seriously, this guy was a joke. If not for Trump, he'd be the worst president in my lifetime hands down. A fair assessment would say George W Bush was bad, but not quite that bad.

I need to read up on Harding. Thx.

I voted too impulsively. I was thinking there will be years ahead of historians arguing whether Trump’s or Buchanan’s ineptness and inattentiveness to crises as the nation crumbled was ultimately more destructive, but he’d certainly be bottom two.

But then I remembered Trump's open corruption, blatant self-dealing, abandonment of American values, abdication of American leadership, contempt for our institutions and most of our citizens, his impulses for division, hatred, and distraction. Couple all that with his abysmal, historically bad outcomes and performance and it's hard to see how he's not the all-time worst. I'm not even sure he should be included on the same list as the American presidents.

Those who put "near the bottom" I ask, who was worse?

I'll let a fellow Never Trump former Republican sum it up.

We have a president who's a con man, a vice president who's a talk radio host, a White House chief of staff who for years claimed to have a B.A. but doesn't, a health secretary who's a lawyer-lobbyist, and an education secretary who's not an educator. What could go wrong?

Kristol

In hiring the worst people, Trump is well on his way toward inching his way down the list to being the worst president.

And i thought dick and jr. We're the worst

No comparison. Trump wins worst ever by a long shot.

Worst ever. Supporters taught economy (code for stock market) and elimination of regulations. But, I haven't seen any of those jobs coming back from China or the coal revival. However, I will say that I haven't seen all those Mex. rapists walking around the neighborhood lately.

Although Donald Trump is poorly educated with a seriously warped narcissistic personality disorder and is a vulgar mendacious racist, in his favor it must be acknowledged that he has ordered the murder of less than a score of foreigners and he has not started any wars. In this respect he has a much better record than most American presidents since Ronald Reagan illegally funded the Contra killing squads in Nicaragua and invaded Grenada.

Reminder: facing the largest public health crisis in a century, instead of addressing it Trump decided to try and make it a Culture War thing.

It Really Is Trump’s Fault
President Donald Trump inherited the world's best economy in 2017 and helped make it one of the worst. The coronavirus pandemic would have made Americans miserable under any president, but it was Trump’s defiance of science, his muddled messaging and his incessant vitriol that has plunged the country into a swamp of joblessness, receding labor participation and slumping business confidence unseen in other developed nations. Trump's four years in office already measure up as the biggest economic disaster for any U.S. president in modern times, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.

It didn't have to be this grim. Dozens of nations dealing with the same challenges are showing superior infection, death and unemployment rates and quicker business rebounds after shutdowns earlier this year. But Trump's disdain for antibody tests, contact tracing, social distancing and masks, among other prerequisites for containing the coronavirus, enabled the U.S. to lead the world in confirmed cases and deaths (though not in deaths per capita). Instead of peaking in late April with more than 30,000 daily new U.S. Covid-19 infections, the virus is resurgent in July — a stark contrast to such densely populated regions as Hong Kong, where Covid-19 retreated to insignificance within a month of its March high.

Don't care

Just want him out.

He's definitely in the bottom five. At that point I think it gets kind of difficult to pick a single worst president. There are some real duds and they're bad in different ways for different reasons.

For decades, I thought nobody can be worse than Herbert Hoover. Then along came a billionaire businessman named Donald Trump who had absolutely no experience in politics. Since learning he was running for President, I only heard and read more reasons to hate him - and not just from liberal media. Centrist media also had only bad things to say about Trump. I heard many blatant lies straight out of his mouth, including some that were extremely obvious, during all three debates against Hillary Clinton. It was clear Trump would destroy America long before he actually did.

Then came a long series of violations of the President's oath of office and completely unprofessional behavior. Lying, bullying, trolling, overreaching his job duties, and acting unpatriotic at times. Herbert Hoover ruined the economy, but was not the kind of guy Trump is. And guess what? Trump also caused an economic crash . . . on top of many other problems we did not have with Barack Obama.

If someone had said 150,000 Americans would needlessly die due to Trump's incompetence, the Right Wing liars would have screamed "TDS!"

The funny thing is they weren't liars. They are just stupid because, even after 150,000 Americans have needlessly died, they still scream "TDS!"

Trump relies 100% on the stupid. And, they have yet to let him down.

It really is too early for this question, but I believe that future historians will rank Trump as #2, just behind Lincoln. Trump should be carved on Mount Rushmore.

We have never had such a great economic president in our history as well as many other items including the many campaign promises that he kept.

Everyone thought that former President Dwight D. Eisenhower was a do-nothing golf president, especially when the USSR launched Sputnik first (we had a rocket and satellite ready to go at the time). But IKE was concerned after the Soviets turned down his "open skies" policy which would have allowed each country to fly over the other for reconnaissance photos. IKE was worried that if the US launched a satellite first and it overflew the USSR, they would cry foul.

We now know from IKE's personal papers that the US was ready to launch a satellite into orbit before Sputnik as the DISCOVERER/CORONA camera spy system was ready for deployment but IKE allowed Sputnik to go first and overfly the US without objection so that the USSR could not legitimately complain about CORONA overflights of the USSR as the USSR already paved the way with Sputnik.

Sputnik was launched in late 1957; CORONA was launched shortly thereafter in early 1958 and began our espionage from space.

I firmly believe that we will find things in Trump's confidential papers years from now that will prove that Trump was one of the greatest presidents ever.

I note you are from the EU. Perhaps therefore, you don't grasp that in our political culture, US sins in this hemisphere are forgotten even as they occur. Yes, Reagan's administration financed mass murder in El Salvador, supported terror in Nicaragua, praised the genocidal Rios Montt of Guatemala, and gave moral support to the neo-Nazi's in Argentina, but while Polish, Cuban, and other anti-communist dissidents grasped the hypocrisy, many Americans couldn't.

To be fair, Trump reportedly was concerned when the CIA killed a suspected terrorist but spared his family, so he is trying. He just doesn't have the Cold War opportunities Reagan had.

Historians of the future won't have the seething hatred for Trump that the left has today. TDS will just be a thing of the past.

For that reason I think they will most likely rank Trump somewhere in the middle.

Donald Trump caused or helped cause over 130,000 deaths - more than any other national leader - in less than 6 months. He publicly declared, "I have no responsibility" for tackling the coronavirus while totally mismanaging it. The number of foreigner murders with that idea in the White House is nothing compared to what we are struggling with now. I will never give him credit for saving anyone's life.

Yes, once Trump Denial Syndrome goes away, he will probably be ranked as the worst president of all time. Good point.

Those who put "near the bottom" I ask, who was worse?

I said "near the bottom" because I don't know enough about the other bottom dwellers to say that Trump is the worst amongst them. I will say that theoretically we could have a worse president, but practically speaking I don't think we could have done worse given our current situation.
