Obama is letting the mideast and africa and latin america dump all their poor on the american taxpayer. And they will vote for the welfare party the rest of their lives.

Rand: Refugees Are 'Immediately' 'Put On Welfare,' Cut Off Arms Sales To Gulf Countries Not Accepting Refugees - Breitbart

nov 18 2015 Rand said,] “refugees come here, and immediately are put on welfare. There are whole agencies set up to put them in government housing, government cash assistance and they’re basically put into our welfare programs. In Kentucky, we have a lot of people out of work, a lot of coal miners out of work. I’ve got disabled veterans saying to me on the phone, just as recently as last night, that they are having trouble surviv[ing] on their disability payments as veterans. They don’t understand why we’re going to take in the world’s poor, and put them on our welfare programs. So, there are some discussions we ought to have about this before we let it happen.”

appears to me that if the refugees had any money they would not be refugees
so, what is rand's/the OP's point?

In short, you can either accept unlimited immigration OR you can have a welfare state. You CANNOT have both.

how about limited, regulated, and an enforced immigration protocol, with assistance provided to those in need, including refugees

They are refugees, what do you ****ing expect? If they did not need help they would not be refugees.

If it was a kit given as a "this is for 3 months and then you are on your own" for refugees, maybe...

Otherwise, no those things must be for citizens only.

Why so heartless to immigrants / refugees? A few reasons:
- this will limit people trying to come in for free stuff and nothing else
- if people can just stay in their own area and collect money, there's no motivation to integrate with the society hosting them, having no welfare will force people into society where they will figure out the customs, etc...
- it creates a drain on the economy with little to no potential for compensation.
- it motivates immigrants / refugees to become citizens

I'm sure there's more, but that's a good start.

Even for citizens, the available welfare is too much to those who don't really NEED it... I don't mean the number on the checks are too high, frankly welfare is poverty at best. What I mean is that there are far too many capable people who are taking advantage of a system rather than aim for more.

(Consider, Walmart in places pays so little so that employees will still qualify for assistance. So, taxpayers in those areas are subsidizing Walmart )

he hates brown people from wherever they come from in the world?

They also, in this situation, being fighting age males predominantly, would not be refugees if they actually fought for their country.

No, he cares about the country more than he cares about people from other countries... The color of their skin is not relevant.

Fight for what country? The the government that tried to kill them or the Islamist militia trying to kill them?

Yeah...riiiigggghhht.

The point is we shouldn't let poor people come here. They are just gonna go on welfare and bankrupt us. THINK

Well... When you consider that only a small percentage of the refugees are actually from Syria, makes it something of a moot point.

This is something of a religious war... I mean, the fundamentalist portion of them at least will have imams that tell the stories of how there has been a war between Muslims and Christians for the better part of 1400 years.

Yes, I know that the majority of Muslims do not support or condone the violence, but that does not make the minority or radicals that DO any less dangerous.

Anyway, life is all about tough choices... And I'm not sure those are the only choices present.

Did the refugees form Vietnam not deserve to come to North America because they should have been fighting for their country?

The war on poverty is 50 years old, and still black unemployment is twice that of white unemployment.
Income inequality has worsened under this Administration, and tonight President Obama offers more of the
same policies--policies that have allowed the poor to get poorer, and the rich to get richer.

I bet the refugees from Vietnam were primarily women and children, if I'm wrong, please, point me in the right direction.

Most of the 18-30 males were fighting for country... Wouldn't you? Let's just say an army came in and was starting to take ground in the country (I don't care how impossible you might think it is)... Say the Russians coming through Canada, if you were capable of fighting for your home, would you do it? Even if the odds were against you?

Well from the pictures I found there seems to be a considerable number of young men. Not only that but Canada at least accepted many times more Vietnamese immigrants than we are accepting Syrians.

Sorry Rob, I didn't realize your reply was directed at the OP, not Rand Paul.

My bad.

I actually like Rand a little bit. Probably most out of this Republican field. Like his dad much more though.

to me it is alarming that something SO fundamental, SO obvious, needs to be explained

they seem to believe we should only welcome rich 'refugees'

I'm not sure what paul is trying to say here, they're refugees for a reason.
