Nope. You have been sod and idea built from a throw away comment that is simply not born out by the actual realities of Southern Politics. The move away from Southern Democrats is connected to several changes in the Democrat party that had nothing to do with race. In fact, for the Southern Strategy to be a thing, you'd have to assume that Southern Democrats raced away from the party of Jim Crow and to the party of the CRA... an insane pretense on its face. What actually started to turn the South red are the following:
1) The aging out of the old southern Democrat population. In fact, the South wasn't dependably Republican until decades after Nixon, and the move had been happening for decades prior. If the Southern Strategy was an actual thing you'd think it wouldn't take all the Jim Crow democrats to retire or die off before it was successful. Republicans didn't hold the majority of Southern state seats in Congress until 1994, and the southern states in Presidential Elections flip flopped between Democrat and Republican the whole time.
2) Religious opposition to Democrats championing of abortion. This is STILL a major hurdle for Democrats in the south. While the Jim Crow Democrats died off, the faith of the South didn't, and the Democrats were not a party of faith, and more specifically Christian values, for the last 40 years. This is really the #1 reason they lost the South, and will likely be the #1 reason they will eventually lose the black vote.
3) National pride: Another big push by the Democrats was to embrace the Anti-War movement, which was not shared by the majority in the southern states, including supporting amnesty for draft dodging, which conservatives of all regions were opposed to.
4) Second Amendment.. Southerners love their guns, Democrats haven't supported the Second Amendment in decades.
The whole idea of secret dog whistle code is a contrived bit of nonsense pushed by Democrats to try and scandalize their losses in the south. Did it fool people? Sure, you are a shining example. But that doesn't mean it was real. There is no way to rationalize any racism strategy by the Republicans given that the Jim Crow democrats largely remained Democrat their whole career, and real change in the South only happened after they left politics or died off.
Somehow the Democrats created the impression that the party of Jim Crow and the KKK were the party that supported the black voter. What the black voter got was crippling welfare dependency and 40% of black pregnancies ending in abortion.
Take it up with Lee Atwater. He admitted it and admitted to using dog whistles. Stop lying.
