This is the 42nd anniversary of John Lennon's death. On many years I travel to Strawberry Fields at 72nd St. and Central Park West to mark the date. Don't think I'll make it this year but I haven't forgotten.

One of the greatest songwriters of his generation, yet................. I have read comments by some conservatives (I say some, not all) where they call him a socialist hippie and such.
Some people can't simply appreciate art for art's sake. Give me some Instant Karma any day and let's all sing Give Peace a Chance. Throw in a bit of Cold Turkey and we can have ourselves a party.

A working class hero is something to be...

Agreed , great musician. But the biographies about him paint him as a person who could be a complete arsehole when he chose to be.

I agree, I think Paul is an arsehole too. The only two Beatles I liked personality wise where George and Ringo. That doesn't mean people need to dismiss their music based on personal feelings or worse - on political feelings.

Those cons have never been able to imagine …

Lennon & McCartney simply had a mutual affinity for writing good music together.

After all these years Beatles music is still captivating.

We all miss John and George.

I remember hearing about it on the news. My parents and I were pretty sad about it. When I got to college, I got really into The Beatles, and their music had a pretty big influence on me. I learned a lot about multi-part harmonies by listening to them, and that skill was very useful when I started singing in bands myself. Rest in peace, John Lennon. You are missed and remembered.

Hopefully not in the ways he seemed to enjoy.
Still pretty vague. I know I can think of some, but I'm interested in what you're thinking. He really was, in my mind, a working class hero & I'm as blue collar as it gets.
For the record, I've made a complete ass of myself, more than once.

I liked his music, but then again I like other peoples music as well.

There is a difference between making an arse of one self and being intentionally cruel to women. Of which even he admits he was.

I don't think that on a scale of rock & rollers mistreating women, that he scores that high. Did you just wanted to say something negative about the dude. He's been dead a while now, longer than some folks been alive.

Was that not negative enough for you?

I am sure women really appreciate his consideration for not taking his mistreatment to another level.

It's song lyrics, dude. A Lennon & McCartney song.

Cold Turkey is one of my ringtones.

RIP

I had to laugh, because when my daughter was in high school, The Beatles "sucked". (So did Led Zeppelin and pretty much any decent music). She got a few more years on her, and now The Beatles are just about the greatest thing ever.

Lol - I remember when my daughter was in middle school, I tried to get her to listen to some Pink Floyd and I got an eyeball and the hand. A few years later after a high-school break up, I caught her listening over and over to Wish you Were Here - by the aforementioned Pink Floyd

Yes it was a sad day.
If anyone hasnt seen it I reccomend watching the movie Yesterday

I recall going to the vigil in Central Park that was held a few days later. It was a Sunday.
By chance I had tickets to see David Bowie on Broadway in The Elephant Man that same day.

I recall playing this song to my dad, trying to express to him how I felt at the time, how the song spoke for me.
He burst into laughter.

Their music is a wonderful rabbit hole to fall down.
