Brian Wilson, the legendary frontman and co-founder of the Beach Boys, has died at the age of 82, his family announced.

"We are heartbroken to announce that our beloved father Brian Wilson has passed away," his family said in a statement shared online.

Some great, iconic music. R.I.P.

I only ever liked their version of the Sloop John B, but that was enough to make me regret his passing.

I don't listen to the Beach Boys a lot, though I did at one time in my life. They still merit a place on my playlists though. I agree with Hamish that Sloop John B is a good one.

RIP Brian Wilson

Well, that was good too, but it wasn't from their heyday so I forget about it.
Very true for most. The fact they released a song that hit #1 so late in their career always stood out for me.

Rest in peace.

My favorites:

God Only Knows (1966)
Wouldn't It Be Nice (1966)
Dance, Dance, Dance, (1964)
California Girls (1965)
Good Vibrations (1966)
Fun, Fun, Fun (1964)
Little Deuce Coupe (1963)
Don't Worry Baby (1966)
I Get Around (1964)
Do It Again (1968)
Kokomo (1978)
Surfin' USA (1963)
Sloop John B (1966)
Help Me, Rhonda (1965)

Brian arranged Sloop John B but wasn’t involved in Kokomo.

Pet Sounds is a great album. Even for those not really into The Beach Boys should give this album a listen.

Not sure how AMYONE could not be away of this music. Heck my daughter had it on her playlists while in college after hearing it on my system.

Brian Wilson greets Leon Russell right after finishing some backing vocals on "When Love is Dying" for "The Union" album.
Unforgettable, and when Leon remarked that Brian was "from outer space" it was clear he meant it as a compliment.

Ouch. Major loss to the world of music.

R.I.P. Brian.

George Martin said Sgt. Pepper would never have existed without The Beach Boys making Pet Sounds first.

There is a recognition among older British music journalists that the Beach Boys were an equivalent to the Beatles. That recognition had waned among younger musicians and journalists over here by the 80's though.

It's crazy to think the Beach Boys were as good as the Beatles and I'm a big fan of the Beach Boys. As great an album as Pet Sounds is, it can't hold a candle to Sgt. Pepper's.

Pet Sounds is different, neither better nor worse than Sgt Pepper’s. Also, keep in mind that Brian Wilson did everything on his own, the Beatles had George Martin providing the expertise.
