Qualified for the job

The thing is, if I payed you to remodel my kitchen, that is what I'm inviting you into my home to do. If I were paying you to express your political views in my home, than that is what I'd expect you to do. Unless you were to tell me in our initial interview for the work that your political rants are included in the deal, you would be blindsiding me and my expectations of your work. It's called respect, and delivering on what you promise- to remodel my kitchen, nothing more, nothing less. Since you are entering somebody else's property, sticking to a contract and being professional is what would earn you more business.

Exactly, which is why opinions can disqualify someone from a job.

The OP, from my perspective, was asking whether your personal political opinion should disqualify you from a job where that opinion has no relevance to that job.

The analogy you used required that you deliberately bring your political opinions into your job. A more apt analogy would be whether you were a member of a pro-life advocacy group and should this have an affect on whether you should get a job as a carpenter....I would perhaps say no.

I also suggested that playing very loud death metal music and bringing a dog to work (obviously depends on your job) would also possibly disqualify you from a job......there are professional standards and these are not just limited to your political opinions.

Loud music and animals are not political opinions.

People get a job to make money not to express political opinions.

Ask any American worker choose between work and money or political opinions your answer is there.

What about the outsourced jobs in China , South America, Mexico.

I'm sure those workers political opinions aren't exactly American opinions.

Sean Penn, in his Communist radicalism, is contributing to the downfall of the American way of life. Therefore, I oppose him, and will not watch his movies, ever.
