All I can say is...WOW.By Kevin Voigt, CNN

(CNN) -- The powerful earthquake that unleashed a devastating tsunami Friday appears to have moved the main island of Japan by 8 feet (2.4 meters) and shifted the Earth on its axis.
"At this point, we know that one GPS station moved (8 feet), and we have seen a map from GSI (Geospatial Information Authority) in Japan showing the pattern of shift over a large area is consistent with about that much shift of the land mass," said Kenneth Hudnut, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS).
Reports from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy estimated the 8.9-magnitude quake shifted the planet on its axis by nearly 4 inches (10 centimeters).
The temblor, which struck Friday afternoon near the east coast of Japan, killed hundreds of people, caused the formation of 30-foot walls of water that swept across rice fields, engulfed entire towns, dragged houses onto highways, and tossed cars and boats like toys. Some waves reached six miles (10 kilometers) inland in Miyagi Prefecture on Japan's east coast.
Just wait until the nutjobs start blaming this on global warming.
I don't like the idea of making this political, but no doubt there will be a lot of that coming. I'm sure it'll be Bush's fault too.
Amazing.
In fact, the Pacific "ring of fire" is in the process of absorbing its ocean floor into the earth. The pressure of the continental plates cause thousands of earthquakes every day.
Another interesting stat I heard: the energy produced by this earthquake was equivalent to the energy the entire United States uses in one month.

How long before this will be compared to Hurricane Katrina?
c'mon, you know you are just acting all pissed off because you can find no way to blame Obama for this tragedy
Jesus H. Christ.
Always with this ****.
Screw this thread, ya'll can be a bunch of kids if you want.
That's what you get for hanging out on a political debate forum. Go find an, "everybody love everybody and agree on everything", forum.
Yes because I can definitely see how an earthquake shifting the Earths axis is a political debate apdst.
Could you please stop being disruptive here?
Yup, here's more lefty concern for the Japanese people.
Since when do lefties talk about admiring the rich?
You were talking about being disruptive...
Are you going to discuss the topic, or derail the thread?
Yes because I can definitely see how an earthquake shifting the Earths axis is a political debate apdst.
I wasn't looking for one, either. Obviously this has nothing to do with Obama.
But, you can bet your sweet ass it won't be long before Obama is hailed as a hero for his swift, decisive action in this crisis, compared to Bush's performance after Hurricame Katrina.
now that you mention it, the shrub does suffer miserably in comparison

As ridiculous as all of the partisan bickering is here, there are actually people out there on Facebook as well as Twitter who have been posting that Japan somehow deserved this because of Pearl Harbor. I wish I was kidding.
What we may call what are war crimes was considered standard war like prodecures in that region of the world long before the white man became civilized, not saying..just sayin. Not a stretch, when you consider that Japan hasn't yet apologized for her war crimes during WW2, nor even admitted that they did anything wrong. They still think they were doing the right thing. If the U.S. had done as much and an event such as this happened here, I doubt there would be very many people appalled by the notion.
