The 22,000 Polish POW military officers were executed by the Soviet NKVD in April-May 1940. All had their hands tied behind their back and received a shot to the back of the head. Not much different from the German Einsatzgruppen mass shootings of Jews in Ukraine. The mass graves at Katyn were first discovered by Nazi German forces in 1943. The Russians of course denied their crimes at Katyn and no one was ever prosecuted. The massacre at Katyn is regarded as a crime against humanity, a crime against peace, and a war crime. In March 2022, the Russian military committed a similar crime with the mass murder of over 700 Ukrainian civilians at Bucha, Kyiv Oblast.

I don't think people realize how badly the Alaska meeting went for Trump and Ukraine.

By passing on Trump's ceasefire demand Putin is able to continue attacks on Ukraine as the long negotiations go on. A ceasefire would have meant an immediate halt to attacks which he clearly didn't want.

He not only got his way but Trump declared this slight-of-hand as a win.

Medvedev said today that further US sanctions seem to be off the table. Another TACO for a Putin win.

On Monday Trump will tell Zelensky that Putin wants peace and browbeat him to negotiate and compromise. Zelensky isn't the fool that Trump is so it will be interesting to see his response. He'll be better prepared this time knowing that Trump and Putin's goals are aligned against Ukraine.
