During the first year of putin's presidency, in August of 2000, a russian submarine sank in the Barents Sea.

Its name: the Kursk.

Wiki:

putin, on vacation at a seaside resort in Sochi, reacted slowly and poorly, for days refusing England or Norway permission to try to save the crew while russia itself tried slow, inept methods.

Cliff notes: everybody died.

Less than a year later, when questioned by Larry King about the disaster, putin gave the following response:

Anyway, it's fair to say that the Kursk disaster was one of the biggest failures of putin's presidency.

This year, of course, we've seen Ukraine's seizure of the russian territory of Kursk, another moment in which putin has once again frozen during a time of crisis.

And so lately, a meme has been circulating that says something like this: Just as the Kursk signaled the beginning of putin, so will Kursk signal his end.

And I have to admit, I like it. It's got a nice beat and I can dance to it.

Except the claim that Ukraine has “seized the Kursk region” is an outright falsehood.

It’s kind of like claiming Pancho Villa conquered the American Southwest.

When Putin began his massive invasion of Ukraine on 24 February 2022 with 200,000 Russian troops pouring over the Ukraine border, he never in his darkest nightmare envisioned today.

The Ukraine military today occupies 1,200+ sq km of Russian territory in Kursk oblast. The first and only time Russia has been succesfully invaded since WWII.

Ukraine has destroyed all 3 bridges over the Seym River. It is not going to be easy for Russia to reclaim its occupied land.

In a stroke of strategic/tactical genius, Ukraine has humilliated the war criminal Putin before the entire world.

Still rather early to call the invasion “successful”.....especially given the fact that the Ukrainians, contrary to the premise of the OP, are nowhere near close to “seizing control of the Kursk region”.

LMAO!
Putin moves in mysterious ways?

Thank you for the laugh.

It’s certainly hilarious watching Ukraine’s defenders try and spin attacks on some border villages as the “conquest of the Kursk region”, yes.

The Russian military does not control Kursk no matter how much that bothers you. Around 37 miles wide and almost 17 miles deep into Russia.

It should only take what 3 days for Putin to take Ukraine? Now Ukraine has taken Russian territory. Putin is a joke and in danger. lol

It is funny watching you try to parrot Russian propaganda that wants everyone to dismiss the Kursk strategy.

"The conquest of Kursk", starring Zelensky the Ukrainian Pancho Villa.

Hmm.

That’s odd.

Because, see, here’s a map of Kursk Oblast.

And here is Wiki’s current update on the frontlines in Kursk Oblast.

Now, looking at the two maps, we can see that Sudzha, where the Ukrainians are, is just barely over the border from Ukraine.

And the Ukrainians are nowhere near close to being in control of the city Kursk itself, much less the entire oblast.

So there is no interpretation in which one can say, with any honesty whatsoever, that the Ukrainians have control of Kursk Oblast.

And here’s a hint for you: the Chechens? They raided into Russia on multiple occasions. Carried out ground attacks in Moscow itself, even.

Guess what? It didn’t win them the war, or even come close to doing so.

The level of desperation that Ukraine’s defenders have had to resort to to “justify” their claims is getting downright hilarious.

That map of the frontline shows your ignorance in reading war maps. Not to mention those blue arrows.

I realize that your hero Putin is stupid and losing his three-day invasion, but ffs your argument is not only stupid it is also sad. FRONTLINE: the military line or part of an army that is closest to the enemy. If you think the Ukranians are stuck near Sudzha, you are mistaken and have no clue how to read the map you shared that shows you wrong.

lol, There is only one contested town on that map. Guess what the others are? Look at your map the yellow dots are controlled by Ukraine.

The map shows the Ukrainians don’t even control all of the villages in the vicinity of Suzdha, much less the entire Kursk region. Your claim wasn’t just a falsehood, it was a hilariously bad one.

So even in your own claim you’ve already admitted you were wrong. Too ****ing funny 😂

Here’s a hint, dude: claiming the Russians “do not control Kursk” when the Ukrainians are still barely over the border is spectacularly laughable.

Russia still does not control Kursk. Or there would be no frontlines there. Why are there Ukrainians in a Russian-controlled area? Could it be the Russians lost control?

On D-day, Germany lost control of Europe. Yet the Allies were barely across the straight. If all you have is semantics then we are done.

Except they do. They not only control Kursk, but they also control the overwhelming majority of the oblast.

Did the US lose control of Pennsylvania when Lee’s army marched towards Gettysburg? Why were there Confederates there if the US controlled the state? Are you starting to realize how hilariously absurd your claims are?

No, the Germans didn’t. It took weeks of bloody fighting for the Allies to even take control of Normandy, much less “Europe”.

And given what a spectacular failure the last Ukrainian operation to be compared to D-Day was, thanks for proving my point....again.

Next up I guess Russian bombers are going to bomb their controlled Kursk region. Thanks for the fun! Play again anytime.

No, the Russians are not going to bomb the entire Kursk region. They are going to strike the tiny strip of border villages the Ukrainians raided into.

That’s because the Ukrainians don’t control the Kursk region, or any significant chunk of it.

Thanks for demonstrating how hilariously absurd Ukraine’s defenders’ narrative have become. It’s certainly fun throughly demolishing your argument, yes.

He's got a "Kursk Curse".

You are the living embodiment of Pessimism.

Why is it that no matter what anyone says to you (you take it out of context and turn it into a strawman argument)? Then you keep arguing that stupid strawman as if it mattered to the conversation.

I think he skipped over the part where Ukraine was creating a buffer zone, and not trying to take the actual capitol of Kursk itself....or, perhaps he simply ignored it.

Well, perhaps because it's just Tiger.
I am sure he is a tactical genius.

No, Ukraine does not “control Kursk”. The Russians still control the overwhelming majority of the oblast, and no amount of denial can change that fact.

When people claim that “Russia does not control Kursk”, then pointing out the fact that yes, they absolutely do, is entirely relevant.

You are the living embodiment of Pessimism.

Ukraine’s apologists having to make increasingly silly claims does not support the narrative about the war going well for them.

You are the only one up in arms about this stupid strawman you made up. I already explained this to you. If you want to believe you won whatever the **** you call this, be my quest. But fallacious arguments based on dishonest tactics are not why I post on this site.

The fact remains Ukraine is in Russia engaging in the war that Russia started when they invaded Ukraine. Boasting that it is not much territory (not the whole oblast) is pointless desperation. If Russia were what it claimed to be (a strong army) Ukraine would not be able to hold any Russian territory for more than 3 seconds. You because you hate the US does not make Putin a good war leader. At this point, Putin is a complete failure.
