As another example of the "New Child Abuse", I was in a small restaurant today having a couple of tacos when I saw a young mother retrieve her 3 year old a number of times from trying to pull the wires out of an electric sign in the front window. Being a modern mother, she would never slap the little darling's hand or butt! It could damage him and teach him to be a brutal criminal. She talked to him rationally and explained it was wrong to do so. Finally, while the mother was distracted with another child the darling 3 year old managed to pull the wiring loose and created a short with electrical flashes a foot or so long arcing through the air destroying the sign in a small cloud of smoke. Luckily the child was not electricuted or hurt, certainly not due to any decent parenting. I'm sure if the child had been injured or killed she would have sued the restaurant and won! The child finished eating while periodically standing up on a chair as his mother continually made him get down and safely sit while eating. This happened time after time. The important thing as she never spanked his little butt! If he actually lives long enough to go to school, we can blame the school for his attitudes and lack of discipline! :doh

I agree, about the parenting, but any business that caters to families with small children and uses portable signs that plug into a wall outlet is asking for a lawsuit. And their high chairs are supposed to have straps that keep the child from standing.
Little ones bear watching all the time, and any business that makes this a more demanding task is asking for it. I make it a habit to tell employees or shift manager about these things, and on occasion even get thanked for it.

I smell a rat.

How is it possible for a 3 year old to pull apart an electrical appliance? Have you ever tried to to do it?

I don't condone the child's actions. So before you accuse me of taking the worng side I will repeat: I do NOT condone the child's actions.

But what kind of electrician wires a restaurant that can be taken apart by a 3 year old?

I smell another rat: a 1 foot arc! Was this restaurant at the heart of a power station?

3 years will play with things - it is natural. I would have removed the child. No need to spank. No need to explain to the child that he was playing with an appliance the was clearly badly installed.

UtahBill,

I completley agree that the sign should have been constructed in a way that a connector was not accessible to a child, but just as many today it seems you are making excuses for a mother that would not discipline her child. Why is it the job of the business to make a child sit in a seat in a restuarant? My children never had to be strapped in to behave! Did you? As a customer, don't I have the right to a quiet meal without children running freely in a restaurant, standing on chairs and making noise? It's the same cop out parents use on the schools today. When a kid is out of control and misbehaving most look for what the school should have done to make little Johnny behave properly!

If you smell a rat, check your deodorant! I don't make up lies to make a point!

No you didn't condone the child's actions, you just excused them! Just as so many do today, you look for a restaurant or a school to blame for children's defiant and selfish behavior! Children are taught today that there is no consequence for direct disobedience but being removed from a situation. We have been taught that a mild slap on the hand will psychologically damage our little flowers of children. What a load! If that were true our seniors would all be serial killers and axe murderers instead of being loving grand parents often helping support the next generation of childish parents with such weak discipline. What harms children are both words and actions of out of control parents venting their anger and frustration on their children, not an age appropriate, well controlled slap on the hand or butt for defiant and dangerous behavior. Small children cannot understand all the dangers they will encounter and parents cannot be 100% perfect in removing them from every danger. Small children need to know that when Mommy says, "Don't touch that!" or "Stay in your seat!" or "Don't run out in the street!", there will be consequence for defiance other than just removing the little darling from the environment over and over again! Depending on removing children from negative situations rather than disciplining them must be 100% effective or someday that child may be seriously injured, killed or kidnapped! Of course when that happens, the parent will never see the connection!

Lack of disciplining children is the new child abuse!

Public Schools and The New Child Abuse

You will notice that anti public school types blame the public schools for lack of discipline! That's exactly the point, discipline used to be the responsibility of the parent! Now discipline is the school's problem! I've never met a parent that didn't pay "lip service" to discipline in the schools, at least until it came to their little darling! Then excuses for little Johnny begin!

Last night in a nice restaurant, I watched a very nice looking, well dressed young family try to eat while their child screamed any time something displeased him. He simply turned his head away rudely if he didn't want to be fed and swiped his hand at the spoon. He struck his parents repeatedly on the arms when he was angry and life was not as he wanted! They just acted like everything was right in the world! After all he's a child! In about 2 1/2 years he will be in a school and some poor teacher will be asked why there isn't more discipline in her classroom!

Children didn't act like that years ago! In my generation, we didn't even think about it! Our parents realized we were just little people, not adorable pure, innocent, perfect angels of God to be worshiped by parents and grand parents as today! As a child you were taught is was only appropriate to cry when sick, hurt, or frightened, but not out of anger, spoiled rage and as a tool of emotional blackmail. You behaved in restaurants to respect other people's rights, or you were taken outside for an attitude adjustment. When you misbehaved, you got the "Family Look" from a parent and you knew it meant "Behave properly or suffer consequences!" You behaved! Child abuse you sayd! Absolute baloney! It was called parenting in those days! Child abuse is treating our children like spoiled little kings and queens to be worshiped and then sending them out into society to find out the rest of the world won't put up with their self centered, spoiled little tantrums as adults! Their future husbands and wives will divorce them as self centered overgrown children dressing and acting like they are 12 in 28 year old bodies! Look around you at the "I don't want to grow up generation!" Don't we all see men in their middle twenties and even older with heavy beards acting and dressing like they are in middle school trying live as self centered children with their toys! Many of them creating babies to be raised by children like themselves!

Children are not born sweet, innocent little angels! Watch them in a playground! They are born with totally self centered needs and attitudes. They will become adults with totally spoiled, self center needs and attitudes if parents don't teach them to be aware of other people's needs and how to be courteous and civil. We are creating an "It's all about me!" generation where more is never enough, and nice cars and homes should just be there for me without all this hard, boring work and saving! After all other people have them, where's mine!

Public schools aren't perfect, but they never have been! What's really changed is parenting! Go to a restaurant or mall, you'll see it! Children not receiving the loving discipline they need! It's the new child abuse! We want our public schools to fix it!

Both Parents and Schools have changed, we are generations deep in Social engineering and now we are see its rewards.

The parents today came out of some decade social movements that promote self above all else and rejected God, the schools to day are Socialistic/humanistic as well. Both the parents and the schools have been dumbed down on purpose, after all the real goal is that the Children are the states and not the parents. We are being turned in to a worker class on purpose, because the people in power want workers, not strong individuals and families that support freedom and self rule.

And anyone who loves their child should stay away from public school, they have plans for the children.

WHEN GOOD PEOPLE DO NOTHING
I am sorry, but the buck does stop with the teachers. Teachers are supposed to be educated, thinking individuals. Teachers should seriously consider the potential; the probable effects on children when teachers walk lock step with socialist, NWO administrators and legislators. Teachers should question curriculum and whether its purpose is scholarship or brainwashing. When teachers are asked to violate the rights of children to receive real, honest educations, teachers should refuse to play any part in the evil! If good people would simply refuse to help the evildoers, evil plans could not be brought to fruition.
Instead, teachers have carried whole language to full term, even as it became obvious that the pseudo-instruction was destroying nearly every life it touched, generation after generation...

Robodoon,

Your remarks are the perfect example of what is wrong with public education and the direction of the U.S. It certainly is a convenient cop out to invent some conspiracy to avoid seeing the reality that our culture is what is affecting our schools. Keep hanging on to your cultist, ideological denial while Asian immigrant students excel in our terrible public schools and leave spoiled, hip hop loving, gangster rapper "Little Johnny" in the dust! When China passes us by maybe people like you will take a look at "Little Johnny" and his family's lack of interest in education. Until then, Americans can watch "Survivor, adult children back biting in Pago Pago" on TV and blame everything on public school teachers!

Some of the private school and home schooled students will have to compete with some of my Asian American ex students at the finest universities. The home schooled kids better bring their "A+" game if they expect to compete with some of the Asian American students public school teachers like me ruined in the terrible public schools! They'll be our future doctors and scientists while "Little Johnny" will be wearing his hat sideways at 28!

there is a bit more going on then you understand. ;)

After the War, the Carnegie Endowment trustees reasoned that if they could get control of education in the United States, they would be able to prevent a return to the way of life as it had been prior to the war; and they recruited the Rockefeller Foundation to assist in such a monumental task. According to Dodd, "They divided the task in parts, giving to the Rockefeller Foundation the responsibility of altering education as it pertains to domestic subjects, but Carnegie retained the task of altering our education in foreign affairs and about international relations." The foundations decided that the most effective method of achieving this goal would be by altering American History, so they awarded grants, fellowships and scholarships to those professors and historians who would rewrite American history and promote one-worldism, humanism and socialism. By the early '30s, the well-laid plans of the foundation trustees had reached fruition, and a Reece Committee staff report concluded:

(1) that there had indeed been a non-bloody revolution in America between 1933 and 1936;

(2) that a certain few foundations had funded efforts to change the beliefs of the American people through education and propaganda; and

(3) that these revolutionary changes had been accepted without resistance.

Also notice what the NEA's Goals were long ago.

I'm a perfect example that what you speak of didn't work (if it ever existed)! I taught in public schools for 31 years and I am at odds with much of the cultural myth and it's values. I did my best to teach kids to question, analyze the factual information while forming independent opinions. All societies promote their own culturally biased version of history and reality! It takes no grand conspiracy to accomplish that. That's what the guy next door wants to believe. The only pressure I ever felt to teach sanitized history and cultural myth was from the conservative parents in the community! They want to have heroes, John Wayne and patriotic music with their Hollywood version of American History! The danger is real, and it is us!

It's just :spin:

When were you last in a classroom Mr. D? And where did you teach? If you taught for 31 years, you are a product of an earlier generation largely uncorrupted by social engineering, political correctness, and general fuzzy brained wacko-ism.

My granddaughter, great nieces and nephews--I have LOTS--and schoolage children are receiving an education that is very different from what you and I received. They are learning little or nothing of pre-1970's American culture or history, are being indoctrinated that the purpose of government is to rescue and take care of people, that equal opportunity doesn't exist, and the only justice is equality of outcome. Some are getting reasonably good instruction in math and the sciences, but one teacher explained to the parents that it was more important that the students are encouraged and feel good about their papers than that the punctuation and spelling are perfect so she only graded on the effort.

Those growing up in small towns are being shortchanged somewhat on advanced math, science labs, and languages but seem to be getting an overall better education than the big city schools are accomplishing. The few in private or parochial schools seem to have their acts together better and the homeschooled kids are doing best of all.

And yes, there are some really great kids who seem to be excelling in the public schools and they all have really great parents.

I will agree with you that parents who do not parent, who do not demand responsibility and accountablity of their kids, and who do not provide a united front with the school are doing their kids no favors. But so many of these 'incompetent' parents are also products of those post 1960's schools, you have to figure there's a connection there.

But I'm not going to let the public schools or the NEA off the hook either as too many are doing more indoctrinating than teaching these days.

AlbqOwl,

Honestly in 31 years I was in many schools throughout California and other states and I never saw evidence of what you claim. I saw great teachers, average teachers and poor teachers as with any other group of humans, but most ot the teachers were trying hard to give kids a good education. The major changes I've seen have been (1.) public education becoming a political football filled with micro managing negative interference, (2.) having public education blamed for the problems of massive, uncontrolled immigation of the poor, and (3.) a tremendous decline in parental discipling and instilling of the value of education in their children. The last point is where American Asian Immigrants have most Americans beaten! That's why they still excel in our "horrible" schools and China is going to pass us in the sciences if we don't watch out!

Under the topic of parental attitudes about education, here's an excerpt from an email from a teacher still working at the school from which I retired:

"A mother cornered me in the parking lot the other day and thought I should reconsider putting difficult questions on the test. Her son has trouble getting an A with those questions and 'What he learns is not as important as his grade.' /HER WORDS/ Another parent wrote a letter to the principal complaining that I told her son he would be better off coming to school instead of attending Disneyland with the Band. She though having fun with his friends was more important. He has an 'F' at all grading periods. I think I am out of step with the times!"

I'll leave it to the reader to decide if these parents have the right attitudes towards the value of education!
