Usually I make polls public. I'll make this private for obvious reasons. I won't editorialize in this OP. The poll speaks for itself. (Hope I can do it in the 5 minute limit).
Private, MULTIPLE CHOICE poll. Check all that apply to you.
I kept it private hoping then people vote truthfully.
The purpose of this thread is to see how many people expressing opinions on prostitution do so from direct personal experiences or from what they believe from what they have seen on TV and in the movies.

I dont see the point to this. It's like a poll on people who have been to war. I've never been to war but I can have an opinion about it
The poll results already make this worth it...opcorn2:
I've never had any personal involvement, just professional chiefly from having been in LE.
From what I've seen a majority are involved in an abusive/exploitative relationship that often seems to center around drugs. I am aware there are probably exceptions to this, but I'm going by what I've seen.
Very sadly I recall a certain streetwalker I encountered on several occasions over the course of about five years. The first time I saw her she was a healthy-looking attractive young girl; my partner noted that she must not have been "in the business" for long.
Five years later, she appeared to have aged decades, looked very unhealthy and rough. She disappeared entirely soon after.
While in general I support people having the liberty to do with their body/self what they will (if it harm none), I am very uncertain whether legalizing prostitution would be a good idea overall. Something would have to be done about the exploitative aspects and risks. Like drugs, I hate seeing it does to people.
Oh so basically it has no real meaningful purpose . . got it, we could have all guessed that though.
Your messages have become nothing but irrelevant trolling. Time to tell you goodbye.
Two years in Vietnam...hard for a very young man to get sex for free. "Steam n Cream" was my fav. Sweat the pores, get an awesome massage, etc...walk out like a new man.
Long term prostitution will destroy nearly anyone. It's inevitable and a nature of the profession. That is just the physical aspect, not even counting the psychological potential damage.
True, but what it actually is like to be in war itself literally? You can have an opinion of what that is like, but it all hearsay and mostly from what you see on TV and videos.
It's like when people post what they would do for a home invasion or when attacked, when they never have been. They can only state what they hope they would do and would want to do, not what they will do. The portrayals of prostitution and the realities of prostitution are not the same thing.

You couldn't become a "double veteran" ?
Long term football or boxing destroys a body. Long term factory work destroys a mind.
It's called choice
There are no referees watching over acts of prostitution, are there? Factories are physical locations with lots of people present and government with an ability to enforce safety rules and regulations. None of those have any relationship to prostitution.
Your view that prostitution is just going to a job is naive and unreal - and you know it.

But this is my point. You want prostitution outlawed even though you have not personally experienced it.
I think football destroys a life for many....but that is their choice
Reciting personal experiences on this forum has particular value nor do I care to make this topic about me. On another thread, in part, I mentioned my "experience" with prostitution and prostitutes. I have taken prostitutes to the hospital. Seen them bleeding. Beaten. Slashed. Disfigured. Sometimes, not often, I was one of the men assigned to hunt down the man who did to assure what happens to him is far worse than he did to her as one aspect of my employment for over a decade. Some of the women were friends, even close friends.
Though it varied, the evolution of each was fairly similar, depending how much drug usage and addiction might become involved. It did not take long for a seeming fast-track exciting life bringing in some - not a lot - of money would instead because a hardened, calculating, manipulative person. Cynical. Some would become quite corrupt, as in thieves if the man was dumb enough to let his guard down. As another member mentioned, they aged quickly and poorly. Most were raped and beaten - or worse - along the way. Contracting STDs was not rare.
None would have ever been willing to get a prostitute license, fill out government forms or give the government a cut of what the made out of it. It's just stupid for anyone to believe even 1% would do so. Once brothels are excluded from the topic, and that isn't and wouldn't be 1/10th of 1%, people claiming legalization - meaning the opposite in adding regulations - would protect prostitutes is ludicrous. It only would protect the men - the johns, the pimps, the predators, those who would engage in sexual harassment. Of the men, some I knew, none would ever go to a brothel.
Your turn to tell about your "experience."
I have seen lots of football players at the hospital. Lots get hooked on drugs their careers over, file bankruptcy and then look forward to brain damage.
But that was their choice
