I’m white. I worked in an all black school for 5 years and would go from my college campus to the predominantly all black community where the school is on foot or roller blades for all 5 of those years.

Not a single incident - or even close to an incident.

I agree with you 100%. Now it is fashionable for colleges to promote white hatred and here is the proof. They only withdrew because of intense backlash but the fact that they would promote this in the first place just shows that our kids are being indoctrinated and have been for 30 years now. this is why we get posters saying that if someone is yelled at, you might expect that it is a black in a white neighborhood. this is just more of the same indoctrination that all white people are racists. And here this is in a thread about verbal assaults and has nothing to do with racism but the left and people like mSNBC and Joy Reid and many others promote the idea that WHITE [people are bad.

I had a good laugh at that comment, I really did. I know of one white person who has NEVER had a problem walking through a predominantly black area. Mind you, I live in Canada, so maybe that is the difference?
I have traveled extensively throughout the States, more so in my youth, and even traveled the southern states. Spend evenings in Negro bars and nightclubs, never a problem. Once in NC was taken (by a white lady) to an illegal speak easy owned by black folks, and guess what? Had one of the best evenings of my life.
IN short, you are full of it. You make assumptions about people that are laughable. I have sat and talked to, broken bread with, and listened to black people, Muslims, members of the LBGTQ community and yes, even conservative white people. So much for your assumptions.

Twice, while walking on the street outside my residence (which I've been doing for twenty years), some foul mouthed woman I never saw before started yelling at me. The first time, because it was early Sunday and no one else was around, she followed and harangued me for roughly 20 minutes as I simply kept walking, apparently for not listening to whatever she was raving about. I did everything I could not to interact her the first time, but the second time, she again addressed me without any provocation on my part, though she only said two things because there were more cars around (no listening witnesses though).

I am informed that verbal assault is not illegal but that threats are, though without a witness, I doubt the cops will do (or will want to do) anything. I'm certainly not going to stop my walks because of this twit. I thought about taking my iphone on the walk and, if she does it a third time, threaten to take her picture and use it to bring charges against her (also a long shot, I imagine). She probably doesn't have a brain in her head and is incapable of understanding consequences, but I might be better protected if I had some documentation.

I'd take @jonny5 's recommendation because it's better to have the police aware of this in case it persists or escalates. Maybe the short term fix is to jog just enough to lose her...

Since you don't live in America, you should not make posts about a black person getting heckled or yelled at. it is quite the opposite if a white person is in a predominantly black area.

Can anyone here imagine what would have happened if a college said they were holding an event for people tired of BLACK men? They would be told to shut down and the entire faculty would be investigated for crimes including hate speech. But, nope. The event was to disparage WHITE people so it's all OK.

I deliberately elided references to race in my OP just to keep to the essentials, but race entered in by the back door, so to speak.

I'm white; the verbal assailant was black. The area where I've been walking for 30 years is not specifically black but there is such an area on the far side of the neighboring freeway. I do not specifically remember any racial components to the woman's ravings, but since you assume that any black person would be assailed by a white for racial reasons, it's equally fair to make that assumption of a black assailant.

Over the years I've met my share of white assholes and brown assholes in my city, but in that particular area I've only encountered black assholes. (Only one other involved a threat; the others were just grifters who had some involved story to get money out of me.) There have been some nice people too, of course. Once, when I was walking in hot weather, a black guy in a car paused near the curb and offered me a bottled water. Obviously he was trying to rise above differences. But a lot of them don't, and there's no getting around that fact.

I have posted many many comments as rebuttal to this, and did so again today to another contributor, and they were all along the lines of: I have never encountered a problem with a black person in a predominately black neighborhood. So the question I have often mused about is this: is my luck coincidence? Just luck? Since the complaints you listed are not unique. I have heard them often. So why is my experience SO different? I have my theories.
