proper mask use.

Nobody has an answer to this?

Masks are probably the most important part of our mitigation efforts and nobody can answer my basic questions? I'm very disappointed in you all.

It seems you already have some n95's and a passion. Is there a n105 out there we're not aware of? My advice is to buy whatever you can get you hands on and stop worrying so much much about the fit. A slightly off n95 is still better than all the PR masks that everyone loves to wear.

I'm still looking for answers to my specific questions. I don't have n95's I have KN95's. It's weird how you have to parse through so much info to get to answers. It appears people don't have the answers when it comes to masks or they would be here with their answers. We have so many threads regarding other specific C19 related topics I would think understanding masks would be a top priority.

KN95 are not a US standard mask, it will be hard to find good ones as many manufacturers sprung up to produce them. I never heard of the water test, but the candle test is good. The fit I expect is most important.

That's why there is not a lot of quality info on kn95's. The ones I have seem to fit well and they passed the candle test. I suppose I'll just reorder those.

Do you know why the kn95's tend to be white? I'd love to get black ones but I'm afraid there is something wrong with them.

Thanks again for the info!

No idea but I expect for visibility reasons. It is easier to tell when a white or grey mask is too dirty to use.

That makes sense especially with a mask that can't be washed.

According to mask manufacturer 3M, “it is reasonable to consider” China’s KN95s “equivalent” to US N95s. Mask standards for Europe (FFP2), Australia (P2), Korea (KMOEL), and Japan (DS) are also highly similar.

I would rather use a KN95 (somewhat less effective) than a 2 or 3 week old nasty fit tested N95 that I must wear now. Yecch. We have more N95s now, but that just means we only wear it for 2-3weeks rather than a month.:(

Masks are not complicated. If you're willing to wear a surgical mask or even a cloth one, why are you worrying about the kn95? If you can source some n95s, then great. If not, the kn95 is the cadillac of your inventory. Unless you are in a high risk area and/or treating patients, you are overthinking this. Good luck!

I've heard KN95's are significantly more protective than the surgical which is more protective than the cloth one. I just want to use whichever one offers the best protection. I wear both the surgical and KN95 at work. I wear the surgical during times I don't have to get close to people. I put on my KN95 when I may have to interact with someone. I probably am overthinking it. In situations like this where I am not confident what the best course of action is I tend to err on the side of precaution especially during a novel virus outbreak.

Thanks!

Why is there still a shortage of supply this far into the Pandemic? I'm hearing that gator masks are basically useless. I'm hearing cloth masks aren't great. This seems to be what many people are using. Why wouldn't we want every citizen to have access to quality masks?
