Prison or Medical Lab: What was Abu Ghraib exactly?

Seeing the video of our young men and women in uniform turn from simple video messages home into a free for all of violence made me start to wonder just what could have turned dedicated, responsible individuals such as those serving in our United States armed forces to under go such a radical change of attitude in such a short time span.

I believe that those who give up their lives and put them on the line to fight for what the elected leaders of this country deem a worthy cause are to be commended, even if the leaders who sent them there are not. But what if those very people were the targets of this enclosed encampment, not the prisoners?

Known as a tourture center, the evidence is available in the many photos, security and otherwise, that perhaps what was being tested for there was the perfect torture device. People who could show no emotional feelings of empathy, compassion and experience an induced heightened sense of violence. All effects known to be side effects of certain drugs commonly prescribed and manufactured today. Recent research into the frontal brain has proven medications such as Prozac produce these very effects. Could our troops have been given medication such as these?

The general feeling of this entire scene is something is very wrong yet we all have no clue as to what "it" is, and our troops to this very day probably have no clue what made them act in such a fashion. They are left a mystified as the rest of us in America today not knowing what exactly happened behind those walls.

The Bush administration is closely linked to a major producer of such drugs. Past CIA operations by pshyciatric professionals employed by such companies have been uncovered. This makes me wonder just who was in charge of that one prison inside the war zone yet outside of even the Army's scrutiny, and is linked to torture further outside of the war zone today? CIA operatives are before congrerssional commitees on just such charges.

What do you all think? Would our Armed Forces Commander and Chief use our own soldiers as guinea pigs in such a manner?

"There is one Eli Lilly piece of history so bizarre that if told to many psychiatrists, one just might get diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenic and medicated with Zyrprexa. Former State Department officer John Marks in The Search for the “Manchurian Candidate”: The CIA and Mind Control, The Secret History of the Behavioral Sciences (1979)—along with the Washington Post (1985) and the New York Times (1988)—reported an amazing story about the CIA and psychiatry. A lead player was psychiatrist D. Ewen Cameron, president of the American Psychiatric Association in 1953. Cameron was curious to discover more powerful ways to break down patient resistance. Using electroshock, LSD, and sensory deprivation, he was able to produce severe delirium. Patients often lost their sense of identity, forgetting their own names and even how to eat. The CIA, eager to learn more about Cameron’s brainwashing techniques, funded him under a project code-named MKULTRA. According to Marks, Cameron was part of a small army of the CIA’s LSD-experimenting psychiatrists. Where did the CIA get its LSD? Marks reports that the CIA had been previously supplied by the Swiss pharmaceutical corporation Sandoz, but was uncomfortable relying on a foreign company and so, in 1953, the CIA asked Eli Lilly to make them up a batch of LSD, which Lilly subsequently donated to the CIA.
