I like pork. In fact, I either eat it or chicken much more than beef. Beef is just too expensive, and really, red meat is not the best for your health.

That said, while pork is relatively inexpensive (n my experience), it's going to get much cheaper because supply will be going way up.

China cancels 12,000 metric tons of US pork shipments

So unless you want more bailouts for pork farmers, eat more pork people!

Only 0.4% of our pork exports. I wouldn't get your hopes up on much of a price decrease.

In 2024 we exported over 3 million metric tons. Therefore arguably supply just increased by 0.4%. I think it’s unlikely this alone will drive a large price swing.

Pork is taste better than beef unless you're eating high grade beef like prime rib or rib-eye or tenderloin steaks.

A chuck roast, cooked right, is divine.

True. But it is a sign of things that will continue to happen as we piss off all of our trading partners.

Regarding pork, Mexico is the one to watch. If they meaningfully reduce imports, it will do much more damage than China ever could.

We love breaded pork chops. I'm the cook in the family and I make them about once a week. Thick ones.

There is already a lot of pork in Congress.

I've tried cooking chuck roast, rump roast, and tri-tip. Always too dry and tough and you end up with a lot of meat that you have to eventually eat. I must not know how to cook them but I have certainly tried.

Buy pork roast and cut your own. Cheaper and you can always cut them to your desired thickness!

Use a crock pot.

Looks like the McRib is coming back early this year.

The beginning optimism of this news will likely not come to fruition. The 12000 metric tons of pork that was assigned to go to China and was cancelled will likely meet the insanity of the tRUMP who will order the pork destroyed. Remember, the insanities that IT has demonstrated in the past. It won't matter to IT that those 12000 metric tons of pork would go a long way to feeding starving or hungry people in the United States. The tRUMP will take the rejection personally and consequently screw the American public. IT follows the principle of the once french royalty of, "Let them eat cake!". Lacking the interference by the IT, the CORPORATIONS will find some half-assed excuse for RAISING the prices of pork! GREED win out!

You have to go low and slow (e.g. 200) to break down the connective tissue and keep it from contracting (and becoming tough). I like to do it on the grill.

Right. From your link - "In 2024, U.S. pork exports surpassed $8.63 billion in value. In total, more than 3.03 million metric tons of pork was exported to other markets."

12,000 from 3.03 million metric tons is less than 0.4%.
It is a combined market we won't get back.

That's fine if the price doesn't decrease because nice boneless center cut pork chops are already incredibly affordable. It almost amazes me how little I pay for a pack.
