Poll: Yes to more aggressive deportations, no to welfare, citizenship for kids of illegals | WashingtonExaminer.com!

Despite President Obama's efforts to cool the nation's views on illegal immigrants storming over the U.S.-Mexico border, Americans have reached a new level of anger over the issue, with most demanding a more aggressive deportation policy — and reversal of a law that grants citizenship to kids of illegals born in the U.S.

A new Rasmussen Reports survey released Monday also finds Americans questioning spending tax dollars on government aid provided to illegal immigrants. A huge 83 percent said that anybody should be required to prove that they are "legally allowed" to be in the country before receiving local, state or federal government services.
People are fed up with govt giving the privileges of citizenship to people who sneak into the counry.

Here in Europe thousands go down in their boats, never to reach land.

You mean you're not even American? And I've been arguing with you for months as if your view mattered.

I think you might find that the views of some non Americans can count more than those of many Americans. That might seem unfair to you, but that is how the world works.

But, if it makes you feel better, why don't you look up whether Americans are allowed to travel?

Okay, and?

Some people like to debate topics where they have no dog in the fight, it probably gives them a feeling of being above it all.

That's not how the world works at all. Just because you want it to work a certain way doesn't make it so. When it comes to subject purely related to the United States, I don't find the views of non-Americans as usually very useful; because there are things you just don't understand.

Perspective from afar can be very eye opening.

The left is looking for more liberal voters, not more foreign aid for oppressed people in the illegal alien squabble. They are even trying to give illegals voting rights in some cities. The motivation is pretty clear. The great thing about the border with Mexico is that the prospective voters enter on their own steam. Nobody has to fly them in. Oh, I'm sorry, they are starting to fly some in now aren't they?

That last item is, of course, true.
-It does not however make the outsiders' views irrelevant, as they very easily turn into policy by foreign governments that can have unwarranted or negative impact on domestically or expat American citizens.
-It also can be useful to hear opinions that originate from outside of the paradigm that societies' thinking and opinion is sometimes dominated by. Usually one cannot shake off the influence, but sometimes it can help to see another view.

The benefit to responding to the opinion of someone who "doesn't understand" is that it might encourage you to explain the situation and thus better understand your own opinion of it.

Boats are like that.

When they approach a subject in order to learn that's one thing, but that usually don't happen around here.

Re: Poll: Yes to more aggressive deportations, no to welfare, citizenship for kids of

I'm going to venture a guess that much of that 83% has no idea what aid goes to illegal immigrants, what the actual benefits of citizenship are, or how one proves being a legal resident. Polling people about slogans and buzzwords without the details are meaningless. That's how the ACA polls 20% better than Obamacare.

That's not how the world works at all. Just because you want it to work a certain way doesn't make it so. When it comes to subject purely related to the United States, I don't find the views of non-Americans as usually very useful; because there are things you just don't understand.

I prefer to learn from everyone all over the world. There is a lot to learn from the rest of the world. Burying our heads in the sand and patting each other on the back for being Americans gets us nowhere.

They're better off that way. Past misery and all that.
