Around 2,000 Polish troops have marched in a parade in Warsaw to pay tribute to the country's historic 1920 victory over the Soviet Red Army.
The Poles were joined by some US, British and Romanian soldiers to mark Polish Armed Forces Day on Thursday - a major show of allied force as Russia continues to battle Ukraine in the east.
The holiday marks the anniversary of the 1920 Battle of Warsaw, in which Polish troops defeated Russian Bolshevik forces advancing on Europe.

Well done, Poland...stand proud.

1920? Soviet Red Army? What year was the Russian Revolution, 1917? But there was a Bolshevik advance on Europe in 1920. Europe being incredibly militarised by WW1.

There was the Revolution in 1917 but lots fighting afterwards between the White and Red Armies.

A thoroughly confused situation. I am not sure there was even a Poland up till end of WWI. Tsarist Russia was vast encompassing much of today Poland and Ukrainia. The Reds had some success that saw them all the way to Warsaw. Then with help from western countries the new Polish Army was able to push the Reds way far back east. Meaning when things settled the Soviet Union's western borders were much further to the east than Tsarist Russia's.

That too also sealed Poland's fate. Poland was sitting between two big nations with major grudges. Poland was sitting on huge acres taken from defeated Germany and Russia. And Weimar Germany and Red Russia were already cooperating quite early after WWI. At the opportune moment Germany and Russia were gonna pounce on Poland. It is my belief that even if there were no Nazi Germany it would still have happened. The beefs and grudges Germans and Russians was across the board, didnt matter whether communist, nazis whatever. In the event it was Nazi Germany and Soviet Russia that pounced on Poland

Wasn’t just the Poles.

Yes, I know. Bolsheviks and Mensheviks. It took awhile for the situation to be resolved.
Which makes me wonder why a Bolshevik regime who made peace with Germany in 1918 is making an advance on Europe in 1920. My guess? There was never any designs on Europe. Napoleon taught them the value of having control of a buffer between them and Europe and that's what Poland represented. Not a road west to Europe, a roadblock to Europe coming east.
But if Poland wants to be Europe's spearpoint defeating the Red Horde, no foul. Have it.

There was a cluster**** of border disputes and various separatist revolts at the end of WW1 and during the Russian Civil War. In 1920 Belarus and Ukraine were invaded from two directions, from the West by the Poles and the east by USSR. However this led to the Polish- Soviet war where the Poles were able to beat the Soviets at Vistula, a battle right outside the Polish capital of Warszaw, which stopped the Soviet advance and turnez the tide, which led to a for Poland beneficial peace where Poland was awarded disputed territories in Belarus and Ukraine.

Were the Russians amused?

Wait....are you talking about that amazing USSR?

That fantastic 70 year experiment in communism?

That experiment that collapsed in front of the entire world on cable TV in 1991?

Wow....show us all how it worked in the rest of the world.

I am talking about the Red army that ripped the guts out of the Nazi war machine, the one you probably wish had lost.

That no longer exists as shown by events over the last two years.

You mean 1945 when Russia instituted a Communist dictatorship in the same Poland they invaded in both 1920 and 1939?
Maybe they should have left Warsaw in the hands of the SS and not bothered liberating Auschwitz and every other extermination camp in Poland.

None of that changes the fact that Russia instituted a Communist dictatorship in the same Poland they invaded in both 1920 and 1939.

I know it no longer exists i am just telling you what it did to the Nazis, now we have some in the Baltics and east European Countries digging up the bodies of fallen Red army soldiers like trash and desecrating them.

Irreelevant to 1920 when Poland defeated the Red Army invasion.

Still going with that lie?

I have shown where they are relocating the graves.

I have told you many times why the Soviets went into Poland in 1939 but you ignore it, 1920 was connected to the Russian revolution, as for installing a communist dictatorship looks like it was the right thing to do as the anti Russian Polish mentality that is rampant these days, since Poland was independent they have shown nothing but rabid hostility to Russia and a lapdog mentality to the Americans.

The USSR invaded in 1939. There is no excuse for yet another Soviet land grab. They invaded Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia at the same time.

And Poland kicked the Red Army's ass in 1920.

And making excuses for implementing a Communist dictatorship because of "anti Russian Polish mentality" falls flat as Russia/USSR had for decades invaded Poland...

And blaming "lapdog mentality to the Americans" is especially dense.
